Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After a very long walk and endless steps we arrived here and discovered that the most beautiful part of the castle, namely the clock tower and the prisons, were closed for restoration work. We paid a reduced ticket and were able to visit the most modern part of the castle, now used as a conference center and which honestly looks more like a dry hospital, and totally lacking in furnishings. Nice view but nothing more. More interesting are the count's caves, which can also be visited, which are located under the castle.

The most beautiful part of the castle, the clock tower, church and prison cannot be visited because they are closed due to ongoing works that have continued since the dawn of time. Only the most modern part remains to be seen, poorly restored and used as a conference hall. Avoid the visit.

It was a pity not to visit such a predominant castle due to restoration works. The castle was not accessible for tourists.

Castello has been renovated over 10 years and now open to visitors at last. Well worth views from bastions and don't forget to visit grottos. Go at sunset for views over Modica Bassa and Alta.

I was lucky enough to be in Modica for the opening by Price of Monaco in October 2017.
The view of the city is wonderful. It will only be open at weekends for now. But in the new year the funds will be found to open it for longer hours. At the moment there is no charge.
Even without any displays or information, it is still worth visiting. The gardens and grotto are open too.

Understand that it needs restoration - actually some of the parts we saw on the long way up bear that out!

Unfortunately the castle is closed for restauration, but one can get a very good view of the large clock from lower Modica.
