We walked here one day from the main area of Malia, it was a reasonable long walk in the heat, but the beach area and sea views we saw were pretty amazing. The Minoan Palace was great, I do love a big pot and this...More

Smaller than Knossos, the Malia place used to be the summer resort of king Minoas. It's good to read a bit about it before visiting, so interesting this ancient palace of a great civilization.

This excavation has been done with so much more respect than for instance Knossos. Okay, you might need alittle bit more imagination, but just bring a guide book or get some information ahead of time about this archaeological site, about Minoan Crete, about the palace...More

Best to get a guide book if visiting, otherwise you're just looking at load of rocks in holes. Nothing really describes what's on display whilst walking around and some of the faded photos in the exhibition are of no use at all.

It's sign posted and easy to spot. It's off the main road so you'll need a car or taxi. But we did it ourselves. It's well worth the visit.

You can take a bus from the main station in Heraklion. Make sure to get on a bus going to "Malia Antiquities" (bus #38 I think) ask the kid selling tickets on the bus to tell you when to get off. The bus stop is up the road... More
