Overview
More
The sumptuous Chateau-Abbaye de Cassan rises from the midst of vineyards and olive groves. A modest monastic retreat which became a powerful royal priory then a sumptuous princely dwelling, the castle houses a vast Romanesque church (XIIth cen.) And an abbey palace (XVIIIth cen.), Warranting the name of the little Versailles of Languedoc. Here the past breathes through the coolness of the secular stonework. This historical site is a genuine showcase for a number of cultural events. In 2017, the individual visit of the site is closed due to renovations of the main roof

Although the restoration is a work in progress it was an interesting visit. When we were there we were the only two visitors. They have concerts in the old chapel which I would have loved to attend.

The kitchen is most interesting. The church's representation of stained glass windows creative. The second floor is still being renovated so not accessible at this time. Definitely worth the visit.

We visited this beautiful building after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. It is best approached from Gabian side where you can appreciate the scale of its facade. At present only the ground floor is open to the public but there is enough to see there. Informative...More

Lovely quiet and god wine sold here. Cheap and only need about 2/3hours to see it all. We are 20,27 and 60 plus grandparents and we all enjoyed

A fabulous building in a lovely setting. Visible from across the valley this imposing chateau is rather unloved inside. There seems to be a feel of a place that those who are there really want to care for and love but there is insufficient money...More

We were a family group of 8 (aged 5-85). Our tour guide was Julia and she was very thoughtful about pace, shade and ensuring everyone was engaged. There are treasure hunts for little ones and lots of quirky details about the previous occupants, decoration and...More

Its a great place from the Outside, inside needs a lot of TLC, the owners have been saying for at least 5 years they are doing it up. Yes its worth a peek and it could be simply stunning if it was restored back to...More

At an unimposing place between two villages you'll find the imposant Chateau - unfortunately closed at the day of our visit, but you can go surround the walls and have amazing views on an impressive and cultural important building
