About
Historical monument, the smallest of the chateaux of the Loire has a history that dates 600 years back and brings a mosaic of ancient decors from more than 10 chateaux of the Loire destroyed after the French revolution and collected by the historian Louis de La Saussaye at the XIXth century. Sold only twice in its history, it is in the same family for 600 years. The old winery is a small jewel of refinement with decors of Elements sparking great artistic and cultural interest, it is a haven of peace in its green setting surrounded by vineyards. Opened for business for 40 years, his visit shows a set of architectural interest and al English park with rare species as well as a chicken coop. Its soft atmosphere of intimate and personal dwelling is a refinement for lovers of subtlety and wellbeing. The guided tour lasts about 40 minutes and can remain stroll or picnic in the English park al. Since May 2015, the young owner opened among other things of bed and breakfast and cottages for contrinuer has maintained its field in good condition and make it live and it is a small business.

An ideal place to enjoy the Loire region while en route to the south of France. Beautiful place for those that enjoy the authenticity, from the breakfast served in porcelain to the wallpapers made the oldfashioned way. Our children loved “our” castle with its animals and large garden even more than the well known ones we visited. Our small apartment extisted of two separate bedrooms, ideal for a family. Thanks Isaure for the perfect stay!

You approach the small chateau along a short track and park under the trees, next to chickens and goats. The buildings are distributed on three sides of a rectangle, the open end looking out into the estate. The main house occupies the enclosed side, other buildings, formerly agricultural (piggeries, stables etc) are distributed in the wings and now a tea room, shop, etc. The chateau is surrounded by parkland. The main building was carefully restored in a renaissance style in the nineteenth century, using material collected through architectural recycling. The rooms are a cabinet of curiosities, of extraordinary interest. Sticking in my mind are a medieval carved door at the entrance to the tiny chapel, the prie-dieus at the foot of the altar (which fold and convert into armchairs - why?) and a small Dutch genre painting showing a priest rebuking a family eating meat on a Friday, as well as a former scientific resident's study. Visiting on a slow day, we were given a personal tour by a young man who was knowledgable and loved his subject as much as we enjoyed what he had to say. He drew a vivid picture of the house of a French country gentleman.

You can stay in the chateau - the bedrooms are upstairs. I would really like to do that one day. In lieu of that this year, I bought a bottle of the chateau wine to bring home, and I intend to enjoy it later this year in the winter and remember the warmth of the sunshine in the Loire valley in summer and the warmth with which our guide surrounded our visit. We left to the sound of a piano playing ragtime, being belted out with gusto by a second guide. The happy relationship between the two young men in the relaxed context of the chateau will be an abiding memory.

We visited as a group with small children who loved visiting the beautiful parkland, meeting the animals and seeing inside this beautiful family owned tiny chateau. They particularly enjoyed the natural Coca Cola offered as a refreshment and hanging out in the hammock! A lovely atmosphere and a fantastic welcome!

A smaller attraction very close to Cheverny, worth a visit if you are in the area. I booked a group of 18 in for a picnic lunch which was available in an open sided barn before a tour of the ground floor of the chateau at 14 euros a head for an interesting mix of terrines, goats cheese, bread, crisps and a soft drink. Only aggravation was the web-site email link did not work and I contacted the owner through Facebook.

Amazing castle, super cute and much more intimate than Chambord, Blois or Cheverny. One of our favorites in the region so far. Has a little museum with many interesting items. The parc is just crazy... The visit takes around one and a half hour and is very well organised. We strongly recommend it!

I visited the Chateau de Troussay as I was passing through Cheverny and it's definitely worth a visit! It's a really calm and peaceful place with lots of animals which really adds to the atmosphere. There's a little museum about the agriculture of the region which is really interesting. A guided visit is also included in the price, half of which was in English for my family by a very good English intern which was really well explained. It's really good value for money, you can even have a picnic in the gardens overlooking the castle which is lovely. We even got to speak to the owner who was so lovely and welcoming. Definitely visit here!

Quintessential French chateau experience. So blessed we got to sleep in a Loire chateau surrounded by beauty and history.
Amazing house, very kids friendly. Perfect location to explore the Loire and close to lots of nice French gastro bistros. Isaure, the “chatelaine” speaks Spanish and English. She was incredibly welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended

My wife and I were part of the group from Virginia. The team at Chateau de Troussay were outstanding! We stayed in the castle. Pretty amazing to stay in a room that was 16th Century! In the states it’s old if it’s 150 years old. Besides the grounds, the place, the great breakfast, some wonderful diners with their wine, great weather (thank you), waking early with the rooster to take walks in the country in strawberry fields and vineyards, watching hot air balloons; let’s see and oh yea a great home base to visit wineries throughout the Loire!! Thank you, we hope to return one day.

As a first-time visitor to France, this was truly a unique experience that I will always cherish. The chatm of the castle and the grounds was breathtaking. I was a part of a travel group of twenty. The staff served breakfast each morning, and two dinners..all delicious and fresh, along with their warm French hospitality. Dinner in the carriage house is one of my fondest memories of our stay. Our group enjoyed gathering in the court yard in the evenongs. The chickens, pet dogs and cat added to the charm. Truly a great experience.
