You'll need to either rent a car or jump on a tour to get here, but it's definitely worth the effort. This was the highlight of my trip to Bulgaria. 8000+ years of history free for roaming at your will. We spent about 2 hours...More

Maybe we should have bought a guide. As it was now, it was only imagination to understand what we were looking at. Actually the ruins itself are quite good and I probably would have given 4 stars if they had more signs telling what it...More

This place is definitely worth a visit even if you have to cross the whole country. Why? You'll understand when you get there. Full of energy and history through thousands of years. Nice view from the top and very nice trip to it.

Antiquity city, dating back to tracians, unfortunately underwent full destruction followed by bullish tries for conservation. Big potential to be unleashed. Entry comes for €3

Perperikon is situated on the top of a mountain at approx.15 km from the small town of Kardzali. It is a small Thracian stone fortress, probably used as a control point but also as a sacred place. There must be about 30 min from the...More

The legend has it that high in the mountains stood the shrine of the Thracian God Dionysus—the site where Alexander the Great received the phrophecy that he would rule the world..... Worth buying the site map from the little man near the ticket office.

You have to see it to believe it. This is a great, magical old Thracian city with rich history and beautiful surroundings. The persistent work of archeologists pays off and new discoveries are being revealed literally every year. Last year's find is the base of...More
