The remains of this fort tower still look over the city's central plaza. They are lost in between a bunch of shops, "convenience area" and lots of traffic. Some kind of chapel has been grafted on its side with a virgin statute that attracts prayers. In summary: nothing to see.

The belfry is located along the busy street with a lots of vendor and passerby. It's hard to appreciate such structure in a commercial district. Buy and light a candle and make a wish for first time visitor.

the church in bacong is not as ornate but it is as big and almost as old. the setting is so peaceful and away from traffic, with the church and bell tower surrounded by huge trees and it is right on the ocean. the bell tower is taller than dumaguete and in much better condition, and, you can climb stairs... One of the oldest structures in Dumaguete. It was not open for people to go up and enjoy the view, so my rating is only average. Easy to get to along a busy street right in the city center.

I love the place so much. It is just in front of the Quezon Park. The structures impressed me 'cos they're able to preserve its historic look. The tower is located beside the church where you can sit and pray. Truly a place where you can thank God for His beautiful creature.

Aside from it's historical value (which you can read at the signs and plaque in the vicinity) and as a symbol of the city itself, there is not much to see aesthetically. It is interesting thou to see so many people lighting up candles and praying. The Bell tower has somewhat become a beacon of hope and stregnth for catholics.

Do take the effort and read the historical use of the tower to warn against nearing Muslim dangers. Nice to see that there are so many people praying and lighting candles during the day and evenings. Worth a stop and probably one of the best sights of Dumaguete. Recommend!
