About
Deer are fascinating and majestic animals that have been part of New Zealand`s history since the 1850`s, and our farming scene since the 1970`s. Learn about the story of deer in New Zealand whilst looking at the finest collection of deer antlers in New Zealand, including some rare species and record holders. The World of Deer Museum is a multi faceted centre with lots to see and learn as we celebrate the wonderful and very important animal that is the Deer. The basis of the museum is the collection of wonderful antlers grown by stud animals at the famous " Stanfield Red Deer Stud" that includes previous world record antler for number of points (60), SCI and CIC scores and weight. Our point of difference is our worldwide theme, plus the educational focus - the New Zealand story from liberation of deer from around the world to the evolution of the deer farming industry, to understanding the products from deer and the benefits of natural remedies.

Must See in Wanaka
Jun. 2020
Clive took us on a very informative tour of the World of Deer Museum. His knowledge of the deer industry is outstanding and we found it so interesting. He is very friendly and works through the display at a comfortable pace, allowing questions along the way. The antlers are well displayed with information plaques below them. The store has some beautiful antler carvings, skins, knives, antlers, jewellery, etc. He also sells natural remedies, health products (deer velvet, deer sinew, etc.) and beauty products. We will definitely visit again next time we are in Wanaka. If you attend Warbirds Over Wanaka, it is right next door. We were in the South Island for a week and I ate New Zealand Venison every night. Delish! Thank you so much Clive.

A highlight of our New Zealand travels
Feb. 2020
While vacationing in Wanaka, we had the good fortune to come upon the World of Deer Museum. Clive, our guide, was very friendly and down-to-earth but also very informative, both from the standpoint of establishing deer farms and also relative to the medicinal uses of antler velvet. We highly recommend a visit to this very worthwhile museum.

Incredible Tour!

My partner and I popped in to the museum on our way out of Wanaka, Clive took us through a tour and was so personable about the experience! My partner is a very keen hunter in Fiordland and still managed to wow him with knowledge. Such a great business and we hope it does very well! Will definitely be back in next time to see what new stuff he has to show us!

The gift shop section of the shop also was filled with different things, I could have bought them all! Keen hunter or not, definitely recommend a visit!!

A few hours well spent
Jan. 2020 • Friends
As an avid hunter we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Deer Museum. Clives passion for the industry and knowledge is second to none. The museum boasts impressive displays of antler, hunters can only dream of seeing in the wild. The stories behind how New Zealand’s deer farming industry has evolved is incredibly interesting. Some of those antlers would sure look good in my lounge!

Awesome information and a great guy!

We went into the deer museum not quite knowing what to expect. Me and my partner thought we knew a little about deer but we were surprised to learn SO much more!
We saw the antlers on the wall and were amazed how big they were, the points and weights HOWEVER learning the history of the deer and all the deer around the world was so fascinating! And the stories of the deer on the wall and the family and breeding processes etc. We both loved it and learnt so much!
We look forward to hearing about the future health benefits of what the deer can offer which made the whole experience a little less about hunting and more about the science being used these days to find whats in these beautiful specimens! (Humanely i must add)

Great job Clive and cannot wait to visit Woburn park in england in a month :)

A fascinating morning
You cannot fail to be Impressed with the many huge sets of antlers adorning the walls of the lovely shiny new museum that is World of Deer. Clive chatted to us for well over an hour, giving us a great insight into the history of NZ deer farming & a lot of his personal experience from owning/running a stud farm for 30 years.

It’s definitely one of the more relaxing/slower paced options on offer in Wanaka but we really enjoyed our morning.

He does hourly tours & there is a shop as well.
