Wanaka family owned and operated since 1994, Maude Wines is a ‘must’ visit for wine lovers. We are renowned for our Central Otago Pinot Noirs, Chardonnay and Riesling. Taste through the Maude Range or take the opportunity to try our Reserve Range exclusively from our mature Mt Maude Vineyard before they are sold out. Let our friendly, experienced staff take you on the Maude journey, sharing our intimate knowledge of these wines and what makes them so unique. Bookings are essential via the email address or phone number provided and are taken on the hour and half hour.

A delightful experience!
Sarah-Kate delivered one of the most fun tastings we’ve ever had! She has tremendous knowledge about the wine making process and presents it in a very personable way. The wines were unique and very enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed being able to compare wines made with similar methods but different vineyards. We would highly encourage spending 1-2 hours enjoying Maude!

Wonderful wine experience
Lewis did our family wine tasting. He was so friendly and great. His smile felt genuine and made you feel so welcome. The wine was amazing. I loved the Methode Traditionnelle. Brother loved all the Pinot Noir. Great food and great view. Thanks Maude and the team. We are coming back

Wonderful wines and a delicious menu for an afternoon in Wanaka
A lovely tasting, which was free with the purchase of two bottles of wine. Delicious range, and a great host. Afterwards, enjoying truffle fries on the warm deck, with heaters and sitting on sheepskin was very cosy. Beautiful spot, in the heart of Wanaka, and you could even walk back to town if you've had more than a glass of the delicious wine.

We went here on a recommendation from a local but it wasn’t what we were thinking it would be. We found it easily car park is very tight and only holds about 8 cars. When we went inside we were told you had to book for a wine tasting ($15 per head), and there was a 30mins wait which turned out to be only about 15mins. Seating outside on the grass is very limited which is a pity as the view is amazing. We did the wine tasting which was interesting but most of the wines were not for us. It would be great if there was a bit more seating and a bit more atmosphere. It would also be helpful if they advertised the price of the wine tasting

We have indeed changed our business model around the tasting room from walk-in tastings to bookings as the demand has shifted in the last year so we appreciate your patience with that. We love the outside terrace area as well and we are delighted to report that we are working towards extending the seating outside in the very near future. We have also now advertised the price of the wine tasting, which is $15 per head, redeemable with the purchase of 2 bottles. We appreciate your feedback!

Wine tasting Maude Winery

Where do we start?
5 of us had booked a wine tasting session for mid afternoon.
Upon arrival greeted by Ben the Manager who was to do the tasting. Appeared very rushed and we were told in a very terse manner not to sit. We were told to move it along as it was not a casual drink as he had another booking at 330pm.
Throughout the tasting he was dealing with other customers so members of our party missed out on the next wine as he had moved away from the group.
We had had a previous tasting experience at Maude 2 years ago and mentioned the beakers and the relaxed manner of tasting which had been a wonderful experience.
We were told by Ben that method of tasting had been abandoned as it was a pain in the a##. Several queries were treated with the same disregard
It was his complete lack of interest in us tasting and probable purchasing.
We then decided to abandon the tasting as we were appalled by his attitude towards our group.
2 members of our party returned to give feedback as we considered this the most unsatisfactory wine tasting experience . This was not received at all in a manner I would consider befitting a reputable business.

Oh dear. We are so sorry to hear about your experience. Despite the fact that this was one of the busiest periods for our wee tasting room and we were understaffed, there is no excuse for rude service, and for that we apologise sincerely. We are currently looking at our procedures and staffing levels so that we can ensure that every guest at our tasting room has a thorough and pleasurable tasting. We do appreciate criticism as we see it as an opportunity for improvement to better serve our valuable clientele.

More bar than winery

Chose wines from a menu to taste: 4 for $10. The wines come out in bulbous test tubes on a paddle in the order chosen from the menu. No information about the wines so more just a bar experience rather than a serious wine tasting opportunity. Can purchase food (some GF options).

Friendly family owned vineyard

Our Maude Wine visit was great - very friendly host, knowledgable and generous with the tasting samples. We left having ordered over half a dozen bottles to be sent home. All credit to them, would definitely return, and they have earned a place as a regular customer from us!

Disappointing

Great wine but rude reception by staff on arrival even after booking and having to wait 20 minutes for our allocated slot. No one offered us a table or drink or food while waiting and we would have ordered. Once at the tasting table it was so rushed it was hard to get our head around each wine. Would not go back and our friend is local so won’t recommend again.

Enjoyable wine tasting

We visiting this small winery for a tasting.

They share the premises with fine dining restaurant Bistro Gentile. The restaurant takes over when the wine tasting finishes.

I tasted 3 whites and 3 reds and found them all enjoyable. There was a good explanation of the history of the vineyard and of the wines we sampled. I purchased a bottle of Sauv Blanc as it was unusual but quite nice. I didnt purchase more as it was going to be extra weight to carry out.

Booking a slot is best as they seem to be quite busy. Many guests sitting outside on the lawn having their picnic and a drink from the winery.

Nice small winery in Wanaka.

Won’t ever recommend again

I took my friends here. Greeted by a very grumpy waiter who told us we needed to book a wine tasting. We came back for our tasting, 20 minute wait. Waiter once again was grumpy and rude. No offer of a table, food, a drink or anything. In fact, even got a rude response as he pushed past me to deliver food to another table. Eventually got to do a very, very rushed tasting. I took my friends from Whangarei as I like Maude wine, but will never, never, ever take guests here ever again. I was embarrassed, and totally shocked by the service and experience. Maude wines, you need to sort out this absolutely, awful experience. I’m a local, and will never return here again. Absolutely appalling experience. You need to get rid of that horrible waiter NOW!!!

Didn't hit the mark

First visit after living in Wanaka for 3 years, and was left feeling a little under whelmed... very limited menu and I felt it was something similar that I could produce at home. Atmosphere was a little flat, but staff were friendly.

Great wines and a great tasting.

You can't beat raw enthusiasm which came over in our tasting with wine maker/owner Sarah-Kate Dineen. If you could bottle that sparkle you could make a fortune. Eight wines with the Reislings being very special. Not to detract from the Pinot Noirs which were top notch. Wonderful setting overlooking Lake Wanaka in the distance on a bright sunny day. Perfect.
