Day Trip
Mar. 2020
Very beautiful waterfall. I went with a Nicaraguan and he had a slightly difficult time finding the road to this waterfall from the highway. There were no other tourists at Cascada de la Luna the day of our visit. Actually, we only saw about 5 people in the area and limited staff. I would have been concerned if I was not with a Nicaraguan. We rented kayaks but there was a very limited area for kayaking. No zipline available during our visit. Could be due to offseason visit.

Well worth the drive

Easy drive from Matagalpa along a well maintained highway. Off street, secure parking. Easy walk down to the beautiful waterfall. Well worth the drive and walk.

A hidden adventure!
Dec. 2017 • Friends
Cascada de la Luna is a breathtaking waterfall in the town of La Empresa, Matagalpa, and the accompanying adventure tour cooperative is run by local youth. The zip lining is thrilling, consisting of three separate rides across a lush valley by the three waterfalls. Staff were exceptional teachers, very patient and supportive, and accompanied us each step of the way. The true highlight of the visit was a guided hike through coffee fields and rolling hills with stunning views all leading to what can only be described as an oasis; a lagoon surrounded by towering rock walls and a giant cave where you can camp and swim. The hike requires physical fitness as there are a few areas that require bouldering with a significant drop off if a foot slipped. Nonetheless, the guides were tremendously helpful with suggestions of foot and hand placement as well as helping cross crevices with a reassuring hand.

Definitely recommend this activity for anyone looking for an adventure off the beaten path. Very reasonably priced.

By bus: you can take any bus going from Matagalpa to Waslala or La Dalia and get off at La Empresa (1hr 30min). Walk down the dirt road to the right of the basketball court: it will take you right to the river and tour building.

Best waterfall adventure in Nicaragua
Feb. 2017 • Friends
Just north of matagalpa there lies this remarkable geological feature of a waterfall. The tour company established to provide enjoyment and economic sustainability to the region expertly constructed a zip line that takes down the face of the incredible waterfall. Hiking and trails and swim holes abound. Not to missed for the adventurous and spirited should. Very affordable. Great service. Highly recommended.

Really beautiful place
Sep. 2017 • Solo
Such a nice and untouristic place to relax or swim right below the waterfall. You can use the slide to get down, but you can also just walk down and relax and enjoy the nice view, which we did. Really lovely place, I highly recommend it!

Awesome Zip Line and Views!!
Sep. 2017 • Friends
From the Coltran Norte in Matagalpa, this hidden oasis is only an hour and a half away (just tell the bus driver to let you off at La Empresa)! The zip line is aligned perfectly to the amazing waterfall! It is a great, fun way to spend an afternoon. The staff is very kind, helpful and attentive. The trip is definitely worth it if you are in the area!

Not impressive during dry season
Nov. 2016 • Family
Short walk from the main road to the top of the waterfall, there's a dam there where people is washing clothes so the water is not clean. I went there during the dry season and it didn't look like these photos, more like a one line of water.

We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience at Cascada de la Luna. In the future we will include photos showing the flow of the waterfall each month so guests can see how it looks when they arrive. Since this location is part of the community we cannot prevent locals from washing their clothes. However, we plan to use some of the profits this project generates to create a space for locals to wash their clothes. We hope you understand.

Surprisingly untouristic place
Aug. 2017 • Couples
After an hour and a half travel by bus we had to ask villagers if they know where the waterfall is. After a while we got a lift to the right place. It is a beautiful waterfall where we have ziplined over three lines. The view was really nice and we felt never unsafe. Because we did it for the first time we had a guide. The organisation is very kindly and helpful. Overall the trip was really worthwhile for us both (also because it was our first experience to have ziplined). If you want you can also hire them to organise a hike in the nature reserve close to them.
