- vk177Albury, Australia67 contributionsMarket FunLoved our time in the markets. It was a large market with some walking required. Whilst many of the items can be found in other places it was fun to see the craft on display and being made on site. The food and drinks were perfect. Getting to and from the markets was seamless as all the taxi drivers work together supporting each other. It was a fun time..Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 October 2023
- Linda PIpswich, United Kingdom357 contributionsWorth a visitThe market is very large, but also very repetative in whats sold. Sarongs, tops, hats, bags, Thai soveniers and street food. If your looking for fake stuff, this is the place to go, but its not cheap. There is cheap fake and more expensive fake. I purchase a few hand bags and the fakes still cost me £30, so dont think your going to pick up a half decent louis vuitton for £20, you wont. Street food is fab, the choice is brilliant, that side of the market is really well worth a visit. Its vibrant, noisey and very busy. Food is reasonably price and tastey. I looked around the market and was there for over 2 hours and enjoyed every moment of it. Its well worth a visit.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 8 January 2024
- Hilary HDunshaughlin, Ireland67 contributionsLarge, friendly market for food, clothes, and souvenirs. The market was surprisingly big with plenty of clothes, souvenirs, etc., as well as food stalls. The atmosphere was lively and friendly. We felt perfectly comfortable with children aged 8 and 11. We were at the market from 6 - 8pm so we saw it during daylight and at night, with a lovely sunset.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 February 2024
- roy vTraralgon, Australia5,940 contributionsA big market to satisfy all your needsWhile staying in the area we visited it on a Monday night. A big market that spreads over a large area. Plenty of stalls to buy anything your heart desires. Eating places galore, heaps of clothes and souvenir shops all trying to get your business. As you walk around it all gets a bit repetitive, good competition I guess. I did notice toilet facilities there, I think you have to pay to use them. Worth a visit if your there on a day it is open.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 April 2024
- Manisha PMumbai, India14 contributionsGood market to buy souvenirs, clothes etc. Remember to bargain!Nice little market with lots of souvenirs and clothes to buy. Open from 4 pm onwards on Mon-wed- Thurs and sat. Snacks and drinks were also easily available. We liked that this market wasn't crowded and the vendors were quite laidback and weren't in your face at all. Perhaps because the crowd was sparse and they were eager to make a sale, we also had an easier time bargaining with them. All in all, had a lovely well spent evening here.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 May 2024
- FlopslouiseMelbourne, Australia44 contributionsFun family activityThis market is a fun twilight activity for the family to enjoy. Our young children were absorbed by the lights, people and stalls in this open air market. We arrived at 4:30pm which was perfect for us as the crowds were non-existent. As evening continued, the street food stalls became busier, but rather than feeling overwhelmed, we felt a buzz of excitement. There are so many stalls that range from food to clothing/accessories. Money exchange stalls are at the entrance to the market and there is a taxi rank out the front, which brings an ease of travel. We recommend visiting on a Monday/Wednesday/ Friday or Saturday or Sunday. Have fun shopping and eating!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 May 2024
- Natalie SBrisbane, Australia582 contributionsGreat local marketsGreat local market for clothes, food and drinks. Didn’t buy a lot but enjoyed the food and bars. We loved the fresh prawns and squid cooked to order from one stall, the roasted pork belly from another and the rolled ice cream. The two bars we visited were great one was called Luk Bar it is owned by a local lady with ice cold beers in big eskies she was so friendly and chatty. The other one was closer to the food stalls and had mojitos for 79 baht.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 July 2024

Bang Niang Market is open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The best time to visit would be between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Most stores begin to close after sunset. It is lined with 4 alleys littered with all kinds of commerce (fashion, skincare, spices, souvenirs, etc.). The prices on this “tourist” market are generally a little higher than those in the “local” stores along the main road. The most famous market in Khao Lak is located in Bang Niang.
The visit is ideal for tasting local products!

I‘ve been here several times and love it. The atmosphere is great, you can just walk and have a look at the different foods, drinks and souvenirs. The MOJITOS for 60 THB are great and also the Chips Potatoes taste great.

We have been to many markets in Thailand and have visited the Bang Niang markets before, however we were disappointed with the markets this time.
The market stalls were a rip off. You can buy the same thing from many places in khao Lak for a fixed price. Some of the starting prices were a joke and when we asked for a better price they made us feel guilty. For most items we went and bought them from actual shops after the markets, where the prices were a set price and were far cheaper.
A number of people in our group also became sick after eating at the markets.
I wouldn’t bother going back the next time I visit khao Lak.
The rolled ice cream, mojito bar and banana pancakes were great!

Once is enough - This is just another Thai night market, seen one before you don't need to come here. Very overpriced items and no bartering over prices. Food stalls all selling the same food and not very fresh. Its a tourist trap for new visitors.
I won't be back, much better and cheaper food on the main strip, and better and cheaper shops too.

good market, more ‘tat’ shops than street food.
What street food there is is very good, I would recommend the mango sticky rice stall and the pancake stall which are near the entrance.
Toilets on site are very clean with a small surcharge of 10baht.
food prices are on par with most cheaper restaurants so no massive deals to be had. But tasty none the less.
it is one of the main things to do when in Khao lak so is a must if you’re visiting.

To some extent I do agree with some of the reviews about prices being expensive. I bought three handbags which were much more than I’ve paid in Thailand before. The sellers have a price that will not go lower! Offer half of what they ask and that’s as far south as they go. With the exchange rate being rubbish too it does make a difference.
However I love markets, this one is vibrant with colour and bustling. Unfortunately due to an injury I couldn’t walk much of it but from what I saw it was great. We stopped for food and drinks and watched the world go by. A truly great way of spending an evening.

The shopping here wasn't fantastic but the food was incredible and so cheap. Try some of the chicken spring rolls freshly fried and you won't regret it. We also got some pad thai with a 50-year-old sauce recipe for about $3 that was amazing. And the Mojitos were super refreshing and less than $3 as well.

Hi, does anyone know where can I buy fresh seafood? I'd already visited Bang Niang Market and Build Market but cannot find it. It's seems had some constructions.

As far as I know, I saw there was a lot of seafood on the market. I would recommend to go near the the beach where there was the possibility to get seafood. Good luck.

Hi, does anyone know how much it costs to buy antibiotics, about 10 tablets. For ear infection. Thanks in advance.
Written 29 March 2019
I think it’s about £8 and you don’t need a prescription either.
I had a chest infection and went straight to the pharmacy and bought 2 lots, 1 lot to bring home.

What would everyone recommend to do , if staying at the waters . Khao lak . Love food , Markets, drinks. Are there things to do with my wife . Are the shacks on the beaches, or side roads the best to get food .
Written 31 January 2019
I don’t find much to buy or eat at the market. The shops sell mostly the same things like T-shirts, souvenirs. Food are mainly finger food & snacks. But a good place to get fresh local fruits. Go take a look but please note that they’re not open everyday. You can get the same deals at proper restaurants along the way from the beach to the market. Give Na Suang Restaurant a try, we ate there almost everyday during our 4 nights stay in La Vela Khao Lak, good & cheap. Their seafood platter is very good value. If you order the fresh coconut, ask the staff to help you scrap the coconut “flesh” after your drink is finished. Try also the sweet pancakes sold by street carts, made fresh to order with many choices of fillings & toppings. Sorry we did not venture out for sightseeing or other activities so can’t recommend any. If you’ve not already booked your hotel, we really like the La Vela as it is modern & new, by the beach, has huge grounds & pools & a fantastic breakfast buffet spread. Enjoy Khao Lak.
