Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

30 minutes cycle ride from town. Best place to chill in blue waters. Have fun . Caves nearby a bonus. Do visit. I shall again

Well done Judocarli! That’s the way to raise intrepid kids! We followed your advice and hired the head torches from the stall at the foot of the steep scramble “path” to the cave entrance. Very glad we had them. Otherwise pitch black beyond the first huge chamber and the picturesque Buddhist shrine. Phone torches completely inadequate. Like you we followed the sometimes difficult to find arrows to the far end of the mind-bogglingly huge cave (at least twice the volume of St Paul’s Cathedral in London). We too had a bit of a melt-down when we couldn’t find the next one on the return route. Unlike your wife, we still couldn’t find it after a few minutes searching, but luckily we managed to improvise and find an eventual link to the entry route. More arrows would have been welcome. Other caves have better formations, but this one is mightily impressive simply on account of its huge scale. Blue Lagoon 1 was busy, commercialised, and great fun. Lots of people, but still plenty of room for a refreshing swim.

Not spectacular as to the cave. The cavern and lagoon complex made my visit interesting. There were several people here, including a family with children.

Felt a great sense of achievement making it through the whole cave and we really felt like we had it all to ourselves. We all hired flashlights which was a must. It’s not an easy path for three small kids 4, 5 & 7 and definitely some slippery spots and potential steep falls, but they made it to the end with no mishaps and only one small meltdown when mum went off searching for the next arrow we couldn’t find :)
Blue lagoon was quite full the day we were there (pimai) and mostly loaded up with people in life vests. We thought it was quite cold (and the kids weren’t a fan of the fish) so the kids just loaded up their water pistols and shot bystanders. Good fun, but we went back to the hotel for a swim in the warmer waters.

Four of us started ... only two of us made it to the end !
The cave entrance is up a fairly steep path ... and once you get inside it's seriously slippy - flip flops probably aren't a good idea !
Once you get deeper inside it gets seriously dark ... a little torch probably isn't a good idea (hire one at the start of the path to the cave entrance).
The cave itself isn't that big, or that stunning - but it's great to be able to wander around on your own.
Afterwards we had a nice soak in the pools, and enjoyed watching the crazy diving antics!

One needs to arrange transport to get to this cave. There is an entrance fee and they also have a small fee for a flashlight. The cave is large. However, not as large as the caves in Central Vietnam. One needs to hike up many steps before reaching the entrance to the cave. Might not be convenient for elderly folks. It has a decent amount of lighting. However, one needs to be careful while exploring different areas of the cave as there are steep climbs and dangerous slopes.
The lagoon was clean and looked very inviting for those who wanted to have some fun jumping into the cool and clear refreshing water.

The cave is a nice hike and it’s cool.
Pay the 10,000 kip and use their flash flight it makes a huge difference. There are spray planted arrows to follow which makes it easier but once you hit the end the rocks are a bit slippery on the way back.
The lagoon is nice, but very busy. The restaurants around it are expensive. The better priced out of the two is on the far side by the cave entrance.

Well we heard this was a tourist trap however due to corona virus the day we visited we were the only two in the blue lagoon and the cave. We hired a buggy and drove our selves there, you pay a small fee to enter and a small fee for head torch! The climb up to the cave is quite steep, the cave itself is huge and you can explore without a guide. The lagoon was beautiful especially as we had it all to ourself

Is it possible to go by bicycle to lagoon 3?

Yes, I actually saw several people doing exactly that. It is generally flat, the scenery is stunning. I would imagine it would take between 30 and 45 mins depending on how many stops you make. Enjoy.

We've cycled it in about 20-25minute I think. It's a pretty quick ride but we have our own touring bikes. I guess it depends on the rental if that's what you're using! It's a fun ride, worth it!

What is the time taken from vientiane to vang vieng and from vang vieng to Tham Phu Kham Cave? What is the recommended transportation and what is the average price?

I travelled from Vientienne to Vang Vieng by taxi, took about 3 1/2 hours and coat US$100. I visited Them Phu cave and Blue Lagoon as part of a full day tour also including the water cave and kayaking on the river (booked from a tour company whilst in Vang Vieng). Can't remember the exact price but it was ridiculously cheap.

Hi, I am just inquiring about the price of entry for the blue lagoon? Also can you take a regular tuk tuk to the site?
Thanks

We went to the blue lagoon as part of an all day tour so do not know the price of entry to the lagoon. Most people seem to travel there by mini van or motor bike, though we did pass plenty of locals on push bike. The road is very dusty.

Hi Oliver, I am reading that it is a bumpy road out to the lagoon, but it sounds like you took the buggies? I was thinking of taking a scooter, but buggies would be better if available. Can you confirm? Also how much to hire a buggy for a day?
Cheers,
Paul.

I also recommend to hire a driver with a vehicle, too. The road was rough and full of the dust.

BLUE LAGOON is a very popular site for tourists. Many local tour agents offer a day trip to this site for about US$25 per person. BLUE LAGOON is actually very near the town and can easily reached by local "tuk-tuk" , motorcycle , bicycle or even walking!!! THAM PHU KHAM CAVE is just behind the BLUE LAGOON. There is an entrance fee to the lagoon, and this includes visit to the cave. The lagoon is usually packed with back packers, enjoying jumping off from the tree to the lagoon. There are small wooden huts, which can be rented for resting; and food and drink (soft drink and beer)stalls around. Nothing outstanding but just an experience!
