I was so looking forward to a balloon ride in Vang Vieng but I was nothing but disappointed. Don't waste your money! Didn't see the sunset as arrived too late, was promised 35-45 mins, was up for only 15 mins. Didn't go high at all and went the opposite direction to Vang Vieng, didn't see any of it, felt very rushed, completely overpriced and the "driver" landed it so badly that everyone was shocked and hurt. Don't bother, or go with a different company that knows what they're doing.

You get what you pay for (I don't mean it negative). In case you want a budget option this is fine. You will have the experience of ballooning. I took the sunrise trip, which those days was the better option than sunrise because it was always cloudy in the morning. Flight time was short 25 min., no safety instruction, nevertheless I felt save and the whole experience was good. We only flew over the city (other companies go in to the mountains and have longer flight times) - overall a good budget option

Had a wonderful sunset balloon ride pick up was very easy and it was great to get to balloon site with balloons not yet ready so you got to watch them blow them up from scratch which was pretty cool to see.

Take off was super quick and smooth with in seconds you are like 100 metres of the ground a real amazing feeling.

Views overlooking mountains and the city of Vang Vieng are superb and worth the 765,000kip for balloon ride crazy cheap for the experience.

We spent about 30 minutes in the air which was a good amount of time, in our basket we had 4 people which was good and not to cramped other side had 5 people in it and they looked tight.

I wouldn’t stand closest to the driver as the hot air is super hot and after 10 minutes you feel like your burning, try to swap positions in balloon it worked well for us.

Now for the disappointing part of the sunset balloon ride they landed before the actual sunset. Surely doing this daily and sunset around the same time you would get this part right. Had gorgeous orange sunset of mountains on the van ride back to hotel. We missed the actual sunset by about 5 minutes and we were the second balloon going up, the first balloon landed 10 minutes before us at about 5.15pm.

If we could have seen that wonderful orange colour sunset of the mountains from balloon it would have been spectacular.

What could have been a WOW experience ended up being just a wonderful balloon ride with great views.

Not sure if this standard or the pilot just landed early, you can’t promote a sunset balloon ride and land before the actual sunset surely!!!!

I still gave 5 stars because it was a wonderfull experience as I mentioned above.

Solid. Don't go to the outfits at the airport. These guys fly on the other side of the mountains which is more scenic. They seem to know what they are doing, are respectful, honest, safe.

We had some difficulty connecting with the company on the morning of our flight, but it all worked out.

Our flight was absolutely stunning! I'm a pilot and enjoyed the quiet of my first balloon flight. The low-lying clouds and mountainous scenery around Vang Vieng were breathtakingly beautiful on a pleasant morning.

I feel that we were lucky that we didn't fly at sunrise, but slightly after sunrise - the light was better for my photography and the long shadows over the landscape were awesome.

Friends highly recommended doing a hot air balloon ride over Vang Vieng so we booked a sunrise trip with this company. We chose this company instead of "Above Laos Ballooning Adventures" since it was cheaper ($80 versus $120/person) and we are on a budget. I also wasn't aware of the differences between the two companies when I made the booking. I'm glad we did a hot air balloon ride but in retrospect I wish I would've paid more money and chosen Above Laos instead. In regards to our day, we were picked up in a tuk tuk and taken to a field on the outskirts of town. We weren't given any safety instructions. We piled into the small crowded basket and took off. The pilot hovered in one place for about 10 minutes which seemed a long a lot time. I began to get worried he didn't know what he was doing. We spent most of the time flying over the town. The flight lasted 30 minutes. On a positive note, our pilot made a nice, soft landing. I would pick the other company since I have read they are more safety conscious and give instructions, their flights last longer (45 versus 30 minutes), their baskets are bigger and not as crowded, they fly over the countryside which would be more scenic than town, they provide more comfortable transportation to/from the air field and they provide snacks before the flight and champagne afterwards.

I booked this after reading lots of reviews.
You get picked up from your hostel at 530am in a tuk tuk, and get dropped in a field and you watch them assemble the balloon (super interesting as I had no idea)

You’re then helped into the balloon and off you go!
There was 6 of us in the basket (quite a squeeze especially when people are taking selfies haha), and then the pilot in their separate area with any back packs / bags you’ve brought.

The view we had was amazing, I felt super safe, and I loved every minute!
Just wish it was a bit longer, half an hour to the dot, but it was worth the money.

When you land they pick you up and take you back to the hostel, I was back by 7am.

I booked the sunset balloon ride through my hotel (and also paid for it at the hotel, after I was delivered back).
The ground crew seemed professional and efficient. The basket fit 6 passengers (closely), plus the pilot in a separate fenced section in the basket. The pilot’s English was good enough to understand his basic safety instructions. Given that the other passengers were Chinese he (being Chinese) had no apparent trouble communicating to them.
The ride took off from a lot near the center of the tourist town, and landed in a field about 20 minutes drive away from the take off location.
The view of the nearby rocks, river and rice paddies in the lovely evening light was a once in a lifetime experience for me.
The only downside for me was the heat from the gas jets that are used. I did not take a warm jacket or sweater and did NOT need them! It’s not hot enough to burn, but i5 is very warm after while. Ride was about 30 minutes long.

Did this flight for my girlfriend birthday and don’t regret the experience!
It was a bit cloudy tough (maybe you can get better view during sunset at that periode) but still a good experience (first time).
