- Paul Smith PalliserPeru364 contributionsGo watch the sunrise here.I read somewhere here to take some time not taking pictures and just take it all in. This is so true. This viewpoint is amazing. We stopped here three times during our 5 day trip to Yosemite. The best one was arriving at 5 am and watch the sun rise. When we got there we were treated to a clear star filled night sky that later turned to many different colors as the sun rose. Amazing experience.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 October 2023
- KentwoolgarBrighton, United Kingdom266 contributionsMother Nature at her best.Read on here that sunrise is the best time to visit. I guess must be contingent on weather conditions. Got there an hour before sunrise until and 1 1/2 hours after and was honestly underwhelmed. I guess time of year and sun position must have an influence also. Went up at sunset and was blown away. The colour change on El Capitan, mesmerising. The dominance of Half Dome, looming in the background. I could have soaked that view in for hours. Get there early, limited parking and serious photographers dominating the area with their tripods.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 November 2023
- xalx119 contributionsBeautifulOf course it's a must do! The view is worth it and very stunning at any time of the day. Some advice - car park is quite small but most people stop, snap a photo and then kick on so a spot usually frees up every minute or two. During the day it's absolutely packed with people and it's hard to feel the serenity of the moment with people jostling about you. We got up early for sunrise and if you crave the quiet to enjoy this beautiful spot, that's absolutely the way to do it. Although it was very cold! Wasn't empty even at this time though, so don't expect to have it to yourself completely (maybe 10 cars). I suspect for a colourful sky, sunset is the better option but it'll be crowded.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 May 2024
- Richard C793 contributionsPull over after the tunnel and feel the power of natureThere's no better overlook on the planet. Take your time, dodge the crowds, and think, "This is awesome." The Tunnel View overlook gives you a vast panorama of of just how powerful nature can whisper to everyone ... maybe even nudge everyone to think, "How immaterial humans are!"Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 June 2024
- Delisi FridaySan Antonio, Texas415 contributionsPerfect Sunrise LocationI'm not a morning person. I'm just not. But waking up to drive here for the sunrise was one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen in my life. I highly recommend going here for sunrise. My photo hardly does it justice. Right by the parking lot is the hiking trail for Inspiration Point. I recommend doing that hike right after sunrise, which is what we did. It was a great, moderate hike, before it got too hot. And the views were beautiful. I wrote a review for that hike too with details.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 August 2024
- MouzourisDetroit, Michigan2,095 contributionsA must for photosYou can't really miss this one as you enter the park from the south. Just a quick stop for photos. Parking is small but people stop and go so just have patience if busy. Photos will probably be better in the evening as you facing the east the and sun would be right in your eyes in the morning.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 September 2024

Even for just 15 minutes, stop here. Enjoy the view and take a lot of pictures. It is so beautiful to just view the cascading mountain slopes. And it was so busy, parking lot is almost always full. We took pictures and left.

I don't think I'll ever be able to forget how spectacular this natural wonder is. Not to be missed. It is almost as though one can't tear one's eyes away. I've never seen any photo, even Ansel Adams' (which is magnificent) that have done his justice.

There is a reason National Geographic chose this site for its cover picture on National Parks, it is the most amazing view in the NPS. The way El Capitan, Half Dome and Bridal Veil Falls are perfectly framed here makes this an amazing, MUST SEE sight. I have been fortunate enough to see it twice and both times it confirms the existence of the Almighty. It is perfect for pictures with people and all by itself. It is a place you simply MUST VISIT if you come to the park. It is truly amazing and incredible, beyond an ability for words to capture. However, to show you what the NPS thinks about the view, Tunnel View is the scene for the best NPS sign I have seen.

This is the MOST iconic view point of Yosemite Valley and you shouldn’t miss this spot while visiting the Park. Visit the area either early morning or during sunset hours and the view is going to reward you. Don’t be in rush, take some photos and appreciate the view!

If you want a great view of the Yosemite Valley but don't have the time or desire to drive all the way to Glacier Point, then at least take the time to drive here. It can be crowded but the parking lot is pretty large and most people don't spend a lot of time here, so parking spots are usually available. We went just before sunset and the golden late afternoon light shining on El Capitan was spectacular.

Absolutely the best way to enter the park. If you have to come to Yosemite from 120 or 140 then go to the tunnel before seeing the park. And you may want to visit it again before you leave. It will be a different experience each time.

We wanted to see the view coming out of the tunnel - so drove through and turned around. Just magnificent. There are parking lots on both sides of the road so please do stop and get out and admire the beauty. It's well worth it.

As we drove toward Yosemite Valley we came out of the Tunnel and planned to stop at the parking lot to see the view. It gets very busy and it can take a few minutes to find parking. It only took us 3 or 4 minutes because we happened to find someone pulling out. However, it usually takes longer and requires some patience. The view of Yosemite Valley is spectacular and it provides a panorama of Half Dome and El Capitan and the valley. We were able to get some terrific pictures. This is a must stop location on the way into the Valley.

We have decided to rent bikes inside the park on June 10 since the shuttles aren’t running. Which bike path is the best to see most views and best path to park the bikes and hike a bit? 3 adults with a 16 and a 10 year old. It’s a bit overwhelming without shuttles to know where to park and walk.
Written 11 May 2021
You cannot ride bikes to Tunnel View.
There is only one bike path. Check the NPS website for Yosemite Biking. Or ask on the Yosemite forum for advice about your plans. We have been helping visitors plan their pandemic-safe visit over on the forum.

I am wondering if I can get to Tunnel view without a day use entry reservation ticket? Hoping to still be able to see some of the park even if I can't get a reservation
Written 18 February 2021
No. To see any of the Park you actually need to go into the Park. Tunnel View is just above Yosemite Valley and several miles inside the National Park boundary.
You can make a reservation for the fee YARTS bus to travel into the Park without a Day Use Entry permit. But it does not go up to Tunnel View. The bus just goes to Yosemite Valley.

I’m visiting Yosemite on Sunday June 29, I plan on arriving around 8/8:30am...is traffic backed up throughout the park at the end of June or is it worse in July/August?

If you're traveling south through Yosemite, is there a way to see the Tunnel View? It's been so long since I last visited I can't remember the drive at all.
Written 24 March 2019
You will have to stop at the viewing area and look 'back" to the north. Worth a stop every time.

We are planing on traveling with a 4 years old and a 1.5 years old (with a carrier) , what trails in Yosemite are Suitable for little kids ?
Written 4 September 2018
Download the map and brochure, I recall 4-5 easy trails. I don’t have it handy, but I went on 4 trails of easy flat walking to moderate uphill elevations either with a lot of steps or decent gravel paths. There are also some paved bike paths and the park has a shuttle bus to get you around. You can also drive to some vistas and trailheads. But we used the shuttle. There is also a 2 hour tour by a ranger that’s interesting but may be too boring for youngsters.

Curious to know if anyone has been in the last week (8/8/18) and what impact the smoke has had on visibility?

How good is Yosemite to visit during first week of Feb? And are there any tire-chain requirements to drive through the national park?
Written 15 January 2018
I don’t know how it is to visit in February, but if there is snow you must have tire-chain or a 4x4 vehicle with snow tires.
Chains can be bought and placed at the entrance of the park. We payed 106 dollars for chain and to put it because I had no clue how to do it but it is easy if you learn even in YouTube.

How bad was the smoke from the nearby fires? It's looks like there's considerable haze in your picture. I'm planning a visit in a couple weeks and I'm getting concerned.

I am planning on visiting mid-March (18th-22nd) will this view point be accessible this time of year?
Written 20 February 2017
Sorry. I am no expert on US weather.
I do know that access to the park overall can be limited by weather.
I suggest you consult reports of conditions at the time.
