The trail has almost no markings at all, so you don't know where it ends. We ended up going much farther before realizing that we came too far. There are a handful of large sequoias enroute.

We visited the Merced grove today as it was raining hard plus the road into the other sequoia areas is still closed. Easy walk down to the trees which were stunning, was quite cold with some snow still on the ground but it's not difficult...More

The Merced grove is at the end of what is for many way to long a walk. When you tie the length of the walk with the lay of the land it will be rated as strenuous for many. It is down hill to the...More

My adult sons, my husband and I visited the Merced Grove in mid-May 2016. It is a smaller park, with limited parking, but does not have as much public traffic as the nearby Tuolumne Grove. Our familiy visited both groves in the same day, but...More

Went here as part of my day tour from SFO using astronomical tours. This is the first stop (after a 4 hr drive). Nice trek down and you can see this grove. Tallk trees, huge barks. Good hike. Nothing else to do here except watch...More

Since the Mariposa is closed, this was a great alternative. It was just awesome to see these spectacular giants. Clear paved path down to grove, so of course it is uphill all the way back to parking lot. Be prepared with water and bug spray...More

It's a simple trail, with many big, beautiful pine trees. Some giant sequoias and plenty of other beauties. Worth the trip. And much less busy then Tuolomne Grove.

But #3 isn't too bad but it is distant #3 when compared to #1 which I remember from a previous visit. This was my last adventure in the park this year. I wanted some exercise. First part from the parking lot is fairly flat then...More

The sequoia trees were beautiful though we expected them to be even bigger. You cannot get too close to tree as this endangers the roots and the seedlings being planted near them. The road is wide and smooth and the elevation is not too hard...More

We are thinking about going to Yosemite N.P in early April is there a lot to see or is most of the park closed.

If Tioga Rd is closed, is Merced Grove accessible? Planning an early April trip to Yosemite. Really want to see sequoias. Are there any other areas to see the trees besides Merced, Tuolumne and Mariposa?

Yes. The teeny tiny parking lot for Merced Grove is alongside the road. Tuolumne Grove is a bit larger. The NPS page about Giant Sequoias has other options that are outside the Park. There is also an article in the Top... More
1- Is there water in the housekeeping tent site, or where is the water? 2- Where is the electrical outlet?
