I could only go in handicap accessible areas. They had it set up so we could drive further in rather than taking the free shuttle. There was a paved trail to the big cut out tree. The rest of the folks in our party were...More

The fire did affect the walk down, but once past it you are great. 3 miles round trip down an old dirt road. This is very with the stop & easy on the kids. One of the first things to do upon entering on HW120....More

It seems very strange to rate anything in Yosemite "average", but the Merced Grove Trail, while very pretty and leading to some beautiful trees, doesn't really offer much that many Big Trees hikes in Yosemite and other parks offer. The trail itself, leading to the...More

We hiked Merced Grove on Saturday morning. The (only) parking lot was full but we found a parallel spot on the road. There is 1 bathroom (pit toilet) at the trailhead. We hiked to both groups of trees and the abandoned cabin and our first...More

Trail was beautiful covered in snow and I imagine it is awesome any time of year. The trees were an amazing sight and worth the moderate hike.

This grove is a bit more intimate than Tuolumne Grove (also worth a visit). It's quieter and less trafficked, at least in April when we were there. Don't miss the opportunity to hike in and see these trees. I think we counted 31 trees in...More

This is a large grove of trees really to be experienced. Yosemite is one of my favorite places on Earth to visit. I lived in Fresno for 25+ years and loved going for the day or if luckyenough to camp for several.Don't miss out!

Less crowds than Tuolumne but stll majestic for a small grove of acient trees. Good shoes are helpful and bring water. Especially in the heat.

Easy trail to walk down and back up to see a small grove of sequoias. Well worth it if up in that part of the Park.

Yosemite is always open. Merced Grove is accessible from Big Oak Flat Road. Hopefully other folks with questions post on the Yosemite NP forum page where topics get immediate replies.

Yes. The teeny tiny parking lot for Merced Grove is alongside the road. Tuolumne Grove is a bit larger. The NPS page about Giant Sequoias has other options that are outside the Park. There is also an article in the Top... More
