Most people come to Yellowstone to see Old Faithful and the bears and bison, but the Yellowstone Grand Canyon is definitely worth a visit. The river has carved a very deep gorge with two large waterfalls and numerous rapids. There are a number of trails...More

Wonderful natural feature that offers a great view and a multi colored canyon that should be included on any visit. Must see

Part of the road was still closed for snow/ice. It's a record snow year in the park so the melt right now really creates some wonderful waterfalls. Restrooms had long lines & parking limited in some stopping areas. Also, a lot of trails in both...More

The lower falls are lovely. I was here in spring so the amount of water flowing was amazing. Birds soaring and bright colors on the canyon.

This was one of the most incredible views we had ever seen. Specifically, we went to the Artist Point stop in the south rim of the canyon. There is some hiking available there, but we just enjoyed the views, which are really awe inspiring.

We only got to see a bit of the area due to snow and road closures, but well worth the time and effort.

Be sure to check out the waterfalls. They are great in the spring with the spring run off from the snow.

We walked to the viewpoint and part of the trail and loved the views. We were also lucky enough to see a soaring osprey.

Yes, there will be tons of other tourists there taking pictures, but relax and enjoy the global camerade of sharing this truly magnificent sight. With patience, this is an easy place to get epic photos.

We are staying in Jackson mid-June. We'd like to see the Canyons, waterfalls and Old Faithful. How far is the drive from Jackson Square? Would you recommend a self-guided tour? Is it safe? If so, how long would it take to see both places? (assuming we wait for Geyser eruption and travel time to see waterfalls). I'd prefer a half day self-guided tour versus a 10-11 tour with a tour company. Thanks!

The drive from Jackson to Old Faithful is about 2.5 hrs. You end up driving through Grand Teton National Park. From Old Faithful to the south rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone (Artist Point), it's another 1.5 hrs. Old... More

How much did the road closures limit travel around the upper loop? Can you still see everything that you would want to see even with the closures?

Hi, it really depends on what kind of hiking you plan on doing. I went last August, and there are easy/moderate trails one can do in sneakers. I wore jeans and my Sorell hiking boots in the Canyon and other times as well. I... More
