Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We drove to Slough Creek because my wife had camped here many times in the past. We got to the end of the road and found a beautiful and peaceful scene along the river and an excellent place for lunch with picnic tables right along the river. Even if you don't fish, this is a must see place, especially if you are coming in the northeast entrance.

Campground a few miles off the main road in the NE section of the Park. Not too big with about 20 camp sites. The camp sites are "primitive" in that there are limited services.
This is a great place for fishing and exploring.
The campground is best suited for tent camping. Sites along the river. When we were there a small section of the campsites where closed due to past flooding that damaged select campsites with heavy mud and pushed away tables.
Campsites are available on a first come first serve basis. Recommend that you get there before noon and wait for sites to open up.
Good location in beautiful Park.

Not an overly popular hike, which is nice. Saw a black bear about a mile from the parking lot. The trail is most popular with fishermen. Bring a head net as the skeeters are fierce and plentiful. You go as far as you want. We went to the cabin in the first meadow. Saw some bison. Nice drive to the trail. Could be my favorite hike in YNP all things considered. Consider going to Cooke City, MT afterward for a meal - way better than park food. Hit STOP THE CAR for ice cream in Silver Gate.

I’ve hiked better and I’ve hiked worse. It was a very buggy hike on the day we selected. Pack horses had preceded our family on the trail just minutes before, which contributed to the flies. The mosquitoes were annoying, especially to family members wearing black - is that a thing? The trail was mostly uphill early on and then downhill to a beautiful valley. Views were very nice. That stated, there are prettier views on nicer trails in Yellowstone if your time is limited.

We were told in several reviews and planning articles his was the best to see bears and wolves. Even our Eco tour guide told us to come here. So we set off from our lodging at 04:45 for the journey to Slough Creek. We saw a Black Bear on the roadside whilst on the way so we were buzzing when we got there 90 minutes later. We parked and walked over to the small crowd on the hill. A ranger and several people happily told us about the wolf den, they allowed us to us their spotting scopes to see the den area and we saw cubs and adults. Then about person asked if we wanted to see a grizzly mum with two cubs on the opposite hill. We used his scope for about 5 minutes to watch the bear family. we had a scope in the car but without the guidance of where to look we would never have seen the wolves they blended into the surroundings. we could not thank the ranger and other people enough for sharing their knowledge.

We spent some early morning quality time with wolf spotters here. We saw a heard of Big Horn Sheep and met a couple of Wolf pups and their parents. With a spotting scope you can see the entry of the wolves den here.

We decided to do the Slough Creek trail in the hopes of seeing a moose. Shortly after starting the hike, a couple of kids stopped us to show us a deer they saw in the trees. After they started walking again, we turned around and saw a furry black shape run behind a bush. We yelled for them to come back, and we all saw a black bear leave the bush and run onto the trail towards us for a second to cross, and then exit the trail to run up the hill into the trees. It got less than 15 feet away from us! It all happened very quickly so it wasn't scary, but definitely got the adrenaline pumping! We continued on the trail and were stopped by other groups who said there were two black bears on the hill farther down the trail. One group told us where to find a mom and cub grizzly in the distance. They had been watching all day, and even saw two hikers (who couldn't see the bears) walk in between the mom and the cub. She didn't react at all! We hiked close to the ranger's station, and sure enough, two moving spots were visible in the distance. We looked through our binoculars, and they were the mom and cub grizzly! We didn't see the black bears, but we did see Sandhill cranes and a fox in the meadow. We also saw many interesting types of birds. We did the trail again the next day we loved it so much! After the short climb in the beginning, it really is easy and beautiful. Bring lots of bugspray though. They swarmed us the entire time we hiked.

Bring a high quality spotting scope and show up by about 7am. You can hire a guide (worth it... try Wolftracker out of Gardiner MT) or you can rent a scope. You will see group's of folks gathered on hilltops looking north toward the ridge.
Really fun to watch the wolves, see the cubs rolling on each other, and we saw some bluff hunting runs of wolves going after bighorn sheep.
We turned the scopes south and saw a grizzly mom and two cubs.
Best morning of our YNP trip.

But so very nice. Hiking as a family, we only made it to the upper meadows where bugling elk were enjoyed and a grizzly was seen from a safe distance. Much of the park is quiet and Infrequently visited in the autumn but I have the impression this area is largely unknown except to fly fishing anglers and those who discover it as an adjunct to camping here. It is wonderful country.

Always wanted to fish some of the blue ribbon rivers and water of Yellowstone and Montana. I was able to do them both during our trip, thanks to a very understanding and patient wife. Slough Creek is a fly fishers paradise, as long as you do not expect bag limits. The fish are some of the most wary creatures I have ever come across, and your fly patterns need to be as near to exact replicas as it's possible to get.
Having said that, it was the most wonderful days fishing I can remember; the scenery and the river are out of this world. Every fly fisher should try to make a pilgrimage to this Holy of Holies.

We will be visiting Yellowstone June 20th and are hoping to nab a campsite at Slough Creek. We are planning to get there early in the morning to get a site. Can anyone give me some tips or insight into the process for getting a site? I know this is a busy season and don't want to be stuck without a spot at all.
