As you drive south along the Grand Loop from Madison to the Old Faithful Center you will follow the Firehole River. Take the detour to see the canyon and falls which is the most picturesque section as it cuts through the canyon. Once out on...More

This river runs along the Grand Loop Road between Madison Junction and Old Faithful on the west side of the park. It has a swimming hole along Firehole Canyon Drive.

There are several beautiful places on the Firehole. In the north, the mouth of the river is where it joins up with the Madison River (near the confluence of the Gibbon River) and you can take the Firehole Canyon Drive loop (off the Grand Loop...More

The Firehole River parallels the portions of the road between Madison and Old Faithful. A stop at a picnic area for lunch was rewarded by seeing a large Trumpeter Swan float by. Quiet and peaceful, a great place to kick back for awhile and watch...More

This is a beautiful drive off the beaten path away from many of the crowds. The falls and river are beautiful...there is even a swimming spot nested back in on this drive.....take time to enjoy and hike a bit here...

One of my favorite parts of Yellowstone. Start at Old Faithful and hike/drive your way through miles of beautiful country, waterfalls and Geyser basins. Take your time and experience the beauty of this part of Yellowstone.

Short hike that is forgotten by many. It leads to Firehole Lake which is very interesting. Worth doing. Not at all crowded.

I may be mistaken, but as far as I know swimming is not allowed anywhere within the park. Having last visited in February, swimming was not on my agenda anyway.
