Stopped while on a road trip. The colors of the pools are amazing, the information signs are pretty interesting too. Walkways are well appointed and cared for.

Grand Prismatic is the largest hot spring in Yellowstone. Grand Prismatic sits upon a wide, spreading mound where water flows on all sides forming a series of small, stair-step terraces. As many other hot springs at Yellowstone, Grand Prismatic has amazing range of colors. The colors begin with a deep blue center followed by pale blue. Green algae forms beyond... More

An absolutely insane experience seeing all of those vibrant colors. We went in the summer and even with so many people it was incredible to view these other-worldly formations. The inner geologist in me was freaking out and the nature-obsession kicked in for everyone in sight, a must see.

We visited in winter via a snowmobile tour. It was a fantastic adventure and one that must not be missed if you are in the area. The walk around the springs exposes you to an amazing display of hot springs and snow formations

Saw this amazing natural wonder in September 2015. This springs is the best in Yellowstone! The best time to view it is in the morning, but the steam coming off the springs can make it more difficult to photograph.

On the day we went, it was VERY windy, and that caused the steam coming off the hot spring to blow across the top, obscuring our view. We could still see the colors interspersed between the clouds of steam, but it was not a clear view. However, behind the Grand Prismatic, there was another equally colorful hot spring that amazed... Amazing colors is what this one is about. It is really beautiful. It is a bit tough to see with all of the steam, and being at ground level. I heard they are building an elevated viewing platform on the opposing hill, that would make a huge difference and would make this even more impressive than it already is.

The weather will dictate what kind of views you will have while visiting this and any other attraction in Yellowstone. Whatever the weather, stop and take some time here.

I am sure this looks so much better from the sky. You can't really get the full effect from the ground. Though it is still really pretty. The colors are beautiful. This is still a must see.

Try going on a sunny time when the sun is out. The colors look more radiant on a sunny day. However the short hike to look it from above was closed due to construction,so it was disappointing.
