This past weekend, my husband and I decided to take a short road trip from Rochester. For all the times we've driven to Syracuse and passed through the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, we'd never actually visited. We figured we'd make a day of it, check out the refuge before heading down to Seneca Falls. Unfortunately, the visitor center and wildlife... More

I wouldn't go out of my way really to have found this; but it did have a nice trail; and a nice little visitors center with a nice person staffing it...the look out from the center onto the pond, gave nice views of some birds....

We stopped by in early February, because we were in the area, and thought we'd take a quick drive around the loop, to see what we could see. As it turns out, the loop, and the entire center for that matter, is apparently closed during the winter. I have visited several times, but even as a "semi-regular" I had not... More

We were on a week long canal boat rental and were able to dock at the refuge for the night. Be aware that the refuge closes at night, so you are not supposed to leave the boat after hours. A night in the refuge can be a bit spooky, but well worth it. There are an amazing number of different... More

My family and I visist Montezuma weekly to view and photograph the various species of wildlife that can be found on the refuge during the year. You never know what you me see, from bald eagles, Canada geese and all kinds of waterfowl, shore birds, egrets, song birds, muskrats and more.

I would have given a 4 but we didn't see much of anything but geese. It would have been better to go at a different time of year maybe. The visitor center was very nice and informative. Kids would love to see all the stuffed birds and a really neat beaver.

Had driven by here on the thruway many times and finally got the chance to visit. Great spot to spend a few hours on a Saturday. There are many great spots to see all the birds and other wildlife. The visitor center is very informative, and the volunteers are very happy to answer any questions. Took a nice mile walk... More

Our first visit to the area and we were not disappointed. We took advantage of the well marked trail and then did the drive. Highlight was our first ever sighting of a Bald Eagle, albeit an immature specimen,

My husband read about kayaking at the Montezuma Refuge. If there was, we didn't find it! As for birding- I can't comment. We didn't see anything that we don't see at home in Southwestern Ontario. (Mind you we just wanted to get in our boats- we weren't birding)

Great photo ops, frendly staff with viewfinders where they would find unique birds and tell you about them. I went mid-day and early morning and the reflections made for wonderful pictures. Gravel road trip is a must do walking trail was best on the first half. They had some impressive flowers too. Best part was it's totally free!
