I think one can do pretty well just watching the introductory video and following the self guided roadway. We hired a guide because the price was modest compared to other places we have been and she led us to the USS Cairo and a tour of downtown as well. That was very informative, even a bit more than we needed... More

I was not prepared for the scale of this sight. The entry area gives a great overview film and then driving around and reading the information provided at key spots helps you learn more about this key battle. A must see for those with any interest in the US Civil War

Based upon the various reviews we opted for a guided tour. We were fortunate enough to have the same guide (Morgan Gates) as several other reviewers. We started with the park museum and introductory film before the tour which gave us an overview of the siege. We then met our tour guide who chauffeured us (in our vehicle) around the... More

We spent a day and a half visiting the park. It is outstanding. They have a 20 minute film in the visitors center. We enjoy the films because it gives such a background of history. Bought the hour long CD for the driving tour. It was well worth the money. It gave stories and history at each stop along the... More

I had a personal guided tour with Morgan Gates. He did a terrific job explaining the history leading up to the tragic events of the battle, as well as the battle itself. Highly recommend booking this. Be prepared to get lost in time for two hours.

A battlefield tour with a guide is a must. The guide will give you a much better understanding of the battle, the movement of troops and the consequences of the battle.

This Park is such a reminder of how men fought for their beliefs and standing on the battlefield it was almost impossible to think about the battles fought there. On foot, hand to hand, hungry sick and often out numbered-they didn't give up till the last. The visitor center has a great film, diarama and other books and items to... More

This was a humbling experience. Our visit took over 5 hours. We watched the video and listened to the lighted tactical map discription of the battle, which really enhanced my understanding. I didn't read everything but am again reminded of the cost of our precious freedom. The NPS has done an excellent job with shrinking funds to maintain the park.... More

Someone in an earlier review described this park as haunting. It is definitely an emotional reminder of the sacrifices from our history and the fight for rights and freedom. We toured with a certified guide and I cannot imagine doing it any other way. Our guides stories brought the details and history alive and made the experience much more meaningful.... More
