About
This breathtaking stretch of lava-rock ledges is perched on the rugged cliffs by the Koko Kai Mini Beach Park. Enjoy breathtaking views all year round, especially in the evening for mesmerizing sunsets framed by the Pacific Ocean. In winter, you might even be able to spot migrating humpback whales in the distance. You also be able to spot many locals and adrenaline seekers surfing and even cliff-jumping off the ledge. The spot is a short 30-minute drive from downtown Honolulu but the path down can be a bit tricky—wear a good pair of shoes and watch out for slippery rocks. – Tripadvisor

In an island full of beaches, this is an off-the-path attraction. This park is marked as Koko Kai Mini Beach Park at the entrance. This is a formation of rocks, jutting out into the sea. And waves keep crashing onto the rocks making it fun to watch. The lack of crowds was a pleasant surprise from a lot of other places by the sea in southern Oahu. This park is in a residential neighborhood, with expansive houses all around the area. I did watch a few people jump from the cliffs into the sea, but I would definitely not recommend it, unless you are a very good swimmer and are extremely comfortable with the ocean. Be very cautious when exploring China Walls - noticeably large waves keep crashing into the rocks, which could be slippery in some places. All in all, a good place to see the waves in the backdrop of an expansive ocean!

This is a quite interesting place. This is not a beach, it’s literally the back of some houses which have a wall that leads to the ocean. There seems to be a place where locals go to fish and jump into the water/swim for fun. Not the most comfortable place to stay for very long, but definitely very beautiful

The view was amazing and this is definitely not for everyone. My teenagers and husband enjoyed jumping off the wall. Wait for people that know what they are doing if you are going to jump in and ask someone with experience if that day is good waves. My son jumped in 3 different days and said it was drastically different each day on how easy it was to get out of the water.

My husband and I were quite interested in seeing China Walls and Spitting Caves but changed our minds after seeing how to get to them. They are in the upscale neighborhood Hawaii Kai. Public access is between two properties. Look for marker 119A. The path becomes narrower as one descends. Navigating the path is a challenge itself. Trivia: A surfer (Okita) was one of the first to surf here in 1948 and said it resembled the Great Wall of China. Three stars because I did not go down the trail.

The VIEW!!! Probably more for teenagers and young adults. Parents may not be interested in jumping and it’s a slippery sandy path to the cliff. Our young adult children had a blast! It takes some strength to climb back up . Take precautions, jump in feet 🦶 first!

Worth a quick ride to see a beautiful part of Oahu. We loved the views of the water and less crowds. We went with friends and had some amazing pictures of the water and sunshine. You can jump in the water if you dare! Know that you do drive through a neighborhood to get to it.

I visited here and hiked many trails on 09/13 during my first visit to Hawai'i & posted a vlog! Search "Nikko Gandia Travels" on YT.
Free street parking. Watch your step, the wet algae on the rocks make it very slippery. Watch your distance from the cliffs, the waves are powerful and can sweep you off your feet. ;) Also if you're going further down, don't get stuck in one of the coves. You can be trapped due to the waves crashing and not being able to cross certain sections because of it.

This review is for those of you who are thinking of jumping off the China walls. Unless you see other people jumping too, do not do it. There is only one sure way of getting out of the water without getting swept off the rocks. It is further off to the left. Also only go on a very low swell day. I went when the swells were about 4 to 6 feet thinking I could climb up the rocks just fine but I was wrong and I almost died after getting swept off the wall two times. There was a really good surfer nearby who saved my life. The place is beautiful and it is a cool place to hang out But respect the water. I learned a valuable lesson today. I thank God for that surfer!

Absolutely beautiful and easy to get to. A short walk through a little alley and your there. Just be respectful of parking. Remember, this is someone’s home and neighborhood.
Reading reviews we didn’t bring our bathing suits because we thought it would be too rough for us to swim, but I honestly regret that now. I think as long as your safe about it, it would be easy to snorkel.
Lots of people jumping in, taking photos, spear fishing. Beautiful spot!

When we first got there, the waves were bad but I thought they were managale. My brother jumped in first and he got out fine. We are both lifeguards and are strong swimmers. After I jumped in it was fine and some waves were crashing on me but nothing too bad. After about 30 seconds of being in however the waves got bigger and the situation quickly got out of my control. I was almost about to drown but a Local surfer thankfully showed me a cove far away since the waves swept us about 50 yards. Thankfully God save me with the surfer being there, if not I probably would have died right there. If you’re not sure if you should jump in or not (DON’T JUMP).

Where can we park if we want to cliff jump? is it crowded with tourists? How harsh are the waves in mid April?
Written 28 March 2019
The China walls spot is at the end of a cul de sac with no parking. You can drop off your group and then park the car on the street above. (Like a 2 min walk).
I’m sure it’s crowded sometimes but when we went it was a Tuesday and we were the only ones there!
It’s a good “first place” to jump if the waves are chill. Not too high but still really fun.
