Further along Kalanianaole Highway is the Makapuu Lighthouse hiking trail. This easy route with its moderate incline to the 647-ft. summit is a popular spot during whale season between December and April. This is a definite photo opportunity even when humpbacks aren’t spouting offshore. If you’re really ambitious, tackle a pre-sunrise hike to the top so you can grab a glorious photo of the sunrise.

The trail was perfectly laid out. It was a smooth hike.Had some good views at the end of the trail. Very much pet friendly. Dont forget to get hiking shoes nd water. If your are doing the hike in the sun then carry sunscreen as well.

It is not very easy to get there unless you have a car or is taking a tour. But is worth the effort as you will have one of the most beautiful views of the Oahu coast. It is a family friendly trail.

From top of the parking lot it is 1.3 miles each way with an opportunity for more hiking on a cinder trail to the beach and beyond.

The lighthouse hike up is fairly easy, paved road. The lighthouse however was not able to be seen in December due to being covered up by a white tarp. If you're looking for a lighthouse view, you won't see it. However the view of the sea is amazing.

this hike is over an old paved road and takes you to about 800 feet elevation overlooking the ocean. In winter, it's common to see whales.

get there early, both for better parking and cooler conditions for the hike, its all paved and does get warm, may be to hot for dogs feet, the walk is 90% uphill from the parking area and well worth the views once you get even half way up

We stopped here on our drive around the island, and the view is amazing and my husband even noticed where the lookouts were in the rocks.

This side is the island is at a much slower pace than Waikiki Beach. You will mostly find locals at these pristine, less crowded beaches. The views are the most beautiful on the island. We wished we didn't wait until the last day to take this scenic drive. We would have spent a couple of days here. It's that sublime!

Makapuu is a one mile paved, wide, winding trail with little shade and no facilities. The parking are seems ample if you get there early enough. The "hike" was easy enough and the views from the top are incredible! The contrast of the vibrant blue water against the rocky terrain, as well as tide-pools below made for excellent views and...
