The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

The "Punchbowl" is as much of Pearl Harbor as is the USS Arizona and the rest of what happened on December 7. 1941.

I visited the National Memorial Cemetery about forty years ago and on this past visit decided it would be a very fitting close to the day we spent at Pearl Harbor. My two nephews traveled with me for their first visit to Hawaii and we had spent the entire day touring Pearl Harbor. We climbed the main stairs to the... More

The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific is located in the beautiful area known as the Punch Bowl. The cemetery is well-maintained in and effort to show the deserved reverence to those who gave their all to ensure the freedoms that we enjoy today - and, unfortunately, often take for granted.

This was part of a tour we booked that covered Pearl Harbor and the Missouri. I probably wouldn't have made it to this location, but I am very glad we made it!

Many tours add this place to their itinerary. Pick one that lets you get out, not just a drive through. Lovely to walk through and see the memorials, graves, information about the wars. Beautifully maintained. Means a lot if you visit Pearl Harbour beforehand. There is also a section to the left side (when facing the memorial) which offers fabulous... More

The mosaics depicting World War II in the Pacific are amazing, and extremely informative. As with all national cemeteries, it is a place of reverence and reflection. Beautiful surroundings. Will visit again.

My uncle is buried here. He fought in the Korean War. The grounds are beautiful. The place is well taken care of. The plots are marked well. They are under construction so be mindful. Must visit for its very surreal in a positive way. Visit this place. 👍😎

Located in the Punchbowl area outside Honolulu, gorgeous mosaics of the entire WWll military history. Great views of Honolulu area, somber memorial to military members and units.

The Punchbowl Cemetery (aka the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific) should be considered a must-see free attraction for visitors to Honolulu. The easily-accessible cemetery elicits a heightened appreciation of the ultimate sacrifices made by many in service to our nation, and an ensuing enhanced sense of patriotism. For the younger generation, it provides quick history lessons on past conflicts.... More
