The Hop-On/Hop-off Waikiki Trolley is the best way to see Honolulu. During our second visit on January 2020 we used the $25 one day pass and took the Red and Pink lines to visit China town and A la Moana mall.

I found this mode of transportation convenient and liked the open-air Red Line wooden trolley that allowed us to savor the different neighborhoods, with narrated comments by the driver/guide, leading to China town. The trolley has a frequent service and waiting time was short. Going back from A la Moana mall we waited five minutes for a Pink line bus which took us back to Waikiki beach.

My wife and I wanted to see some of Oahu but didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg renting a car and this was the perfect option. We stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki and you can either buy tickets online or walk across the street to the mall and visit their booth in person. We bought tickets on the blue line trolley which tours the south coast with great views of the beaches, Diamond Head, Halona Blow Hole and some shopping areas. This was not a double decker bus like the others instead it was an trolley vehicle made to look like a San Francisco street trolley. That was fun but also meant less space which can be issue with all the people in Waikiki. We were told to start queuing up on the sidewalk at least 30 minutes early to ensure we got a seat – there were those that were forced to stand. Our driver was excellent and he told us all kinds of stories about history and celebrities living there over the PA as he drove. The tour lasted a bit over 2 hours due to some traffic and you were able to jump off/jump on to other trolleys in the same line if you wanted. We did stop for great pictures at the Blow Hole and a great view of the private beach shot in Pirates of the Caribbean. We really enjoyed the tour, got great pictures and learned more about the island in a comfortable trolley for a good price.

This was my second visit to Waikiki and I didn’t realise how convenient and easy it was to take the trolleys to explore the city. Stopping at major hotels and landmarks around the city and reasonably priced, we used them to visit Pearl Harbour(purple line), Diamond Head (green line) and also for shopping trips to Ala Moana(pink line). The drivers have great information and friendly and the maps are very easy to follow. You can pre buy your tickets or pay as you board the trolleys. They are fun and easy way to go exploring.

My wife and I used the Pink Line to travel fro the Hyatt Regency to Ala Moana. It was a nice double decker open air trolley that was $2 per person to go from Waikiki to Ala Moana. It was a pleasant ride and great way to count all the ABC Stores you see on the way. Pink line trolleys come about every 10 minutes so you most likely won't have a long wait.

We had a lot of fun on the trolley. We bought the 1 day “all six lines” pass which is actually good for two consecutive days. On the first day we took the blue line up the east side then the red line around Honolulu The next day we took the purple line to pearl harbour (and caught iit back into town.) and then took the green line to diamond head. Our drivers were Greg, Kemo, Wally, Michael and Oli. Each was informative and entertaining, but a highlight was Kemo pulling out his ukelele at one of the stops and singing us a song. We recommend the tours as a nice break from the beaches and the ever present shopping crowds.

We bought a pass for all four lines to use for four days out of seven days. You do not have to go on consecutive days. The different routes give a wide array of places to visit, and most of the drivers tell you about the different sights as you go. One line goes to Diamond Head, another to Pearl Harbor, the red line through the different cultural areas, one goes up and down Waikiki, one to the great local restaurants on the island, and another takes you along the eastern coastline. We learned so much Hawaiian history, and the drivers we had exemplified the spirit of Aloha.

I would have rated this trip just a two, for several reasons, but we really enjoyed our driver, Kama. He made the purchase worth the money. We had some trouble with scheduling. We were moved from 8:30am on Thursday to 6:30am on Friday, they said because of dock maintenance. However, I think they were just consolidating trips, as ours was only about half full. We had a hard time finding our pick up site. That was also changed and was confusing. With this tour, you are basically paying for the ride to Pearl Harbor and a brief tour around the city after, since the admission to the Arizona is free and we had to pay for entrance into the other museums. The trolley was not super comfy and it was hard to hear all of the tour information because of traffic noise. However, Kama was very personable and friendly. His stories and cultural perspective gave us a glimpse into Hawaiian culture and history in a way that we did not get anywhere else on our vacation. If we had just gotten a taxi, we would have missed out on that. I also enjoyed seeing other historical sites around the city. This was just enough time to see the Arizona Memorial, the two small free museums and theater video, and the sub museum which we paid extra for. We did the Missouri Battleship and the Aviation museums on a separate day. It was about $100 per person for the sub, aviation, and Missouri museums. There is a free shuttle to the aviation museum and Missouri Battleship from the Arizona Memorial site. Don't bring bags (unless you have the clear plastic kind). No bags are allowed but there is a bag check for $6 per bag.

Took the Pearl Harbor And Honolulu City Tour
(Includes USS Arizona Memorial). Booked with Real Hawaii tours. The booking was easy and pickup was exactly as stated
Finny was our tour guide and he shared a wealth of information about the island, city, and Pearl Harbor.
I would recommend adding the Bowfin self guided tour while you are there. Take snacks or lunch, and spend the time you have touring one of the museums, instead of having lunch. You have two hours to explore before taking a ferry to the Arizona.
Thank you, Finny!

On our last day in Waikiki we experienced some bad weather not conducive for outdoor activities. We decided to take the Waikiki Trolley pink line for $5/person and hopped off at the Ala Moana Center. Despite the rain and wind, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience sitting on the second level of the double decker bus. Our tour guide, Keoki made the ride fun and informative and we were lucky enough to get him again on the ride back to our hotel. Great experience for a cheap price!

I took the Pink Line Trolley to Ala Moana mall and back to hotel with my family. The cost was $5/person for a 1-day pass that we were able to purchase online. We had a great experience on the double decker trolley with Captain Malcolm as our driver/guide. Malcolm was very personable and had some funny jokes that had us all laughing. The trolley was on time and loading and unloading was easy and efficient.
