Overview
More
The Pan-Pacific Festival is a jubilant block party that takes place on Kalakaua Avenue, from Lewers Street to Uluniu Anenue. Shutting those streets down to traffic, a number of booths take over the space, featuring local cuisines and traditional ethnic fare. Celebrating the harmonious relationship between Hawaii and Japan, the festival also features cultural influences from both areas of the Pacific, with live music, drum, and dance performances, from hula to taiko. The festival always highlights a popular Hawaiian celebrity entertainer, as well as its sister festival, the Pan-Pacific Hula Festival, which takes place at the same time on Kuhio Beach at Diamond Head. The celebration culminates in a grand parade with hundreds of marchers in colourful, traditional costumes, including drummers, fan dancers, and yosakoi troupes.

I happened to be here during the Pan-Pacific Festival and had an enjoyable time watching the dancing and parades by people and different cultures from around the Pacific rim over the few days that it's on.
