Built in 1880 by the architectural firm, McKim, Mead & White, the Museum galleries chronicle the rich history of tennis through interactive exhibits, dynamic videos and popular memorabilia from historic champions and the superstars of today. Dramatically set in the original club rooms of the Casino, visitors of all ages delight in Stanford White's architectural detail as well as the state-of-the-art gallery experience. In the Woolard Family Enshrinement Gallery plaques commemorate the great players, coaches, administrators and writers that have been inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. There are 235 Hall of Famers, representing 20 countries. In 1986, the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the governing body of tennis, officially recognized the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum as the sport's official Hall of Fame. The property today is now 6 acres and consists of the Newport Casino, 13 grass courts, 1 clay court, an indoor tennis facility, the Court Tennis facility, a grandstand and a historic 297-seat theatre. In July, the venue annually hosts the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships for the Van Alen Cup, the only ATP professional grass court tournament in the Americas. These are the only professional grass courts that are open to the public for play.

We stumbled across the Hall of Fame while out on a walk. We poked our noses in and decided to stay for lunch. It was a cool place to eat and have a drink outside by the lawn courts. We did not really check out the museum but would if ever again in Newport.

The renovations here have made an already great facility even better. Fascinating video hall, tons of memorabilia, well-informed and enjoyable guide. I love seeing the beautifully maintained grass courts (I'd love to attend the annual tournament here). Make time to check out the strange game of court tennis if anyone is playing! Well worth the time and the admission fee... More

My family really enjoyed heading to the hall of fame and museum over Easter Weekend. The displays were really well done, and you get a real sense of a bygone era. Good way to spend a few hours.

The experience of playing on the Horseshoe Court, in the center of the Tennis Hall of Fame is like no other! We rented the space for a couple of hours, and felt, for that brief stretch of time, like tennis legends!

We did not know this place was in Newport so it was a surprise to discover. Nicely organized and beautiful common grounds. Fun.

While in Newport RI I would recommend to any tennis fan a visit here but be sure to allot enough time to see it all. It is set up to be both passive and interactive with many displays to look at and read and a good number of interesting interactive displays tom play with. This place is classy from beginning... Nice place to celebrate a special occasion. We toured the museum first before mingling and meeting guests of the wedding party.

If you're a tennis fan, this is a must. The tour is detailed and helpful and the museum holds a wonderful progression of the sport. Wear white if you want to play on the courts. Have lunch in the restaurant.

This is a great place to step back to the pure days of the sport. The architecture is beautiful. Entering into it and seeing the green beautiful grass and imagining Bill Tilden in his white outfit is a rare chance to enjoy how sport once was.
