We have been to Newport so many times over the past 20 years and have never seen this place - what a true gem! The mansion is incredibly beautiful and the grounds are just as gorgeous. This goes on our must see list for years...More

The guides are very knowledgeable and the mansion is just gorgeous. Doris Duke was such an interesting and generous person. The view is beautiful with a 270 degree view of the ocean. Well worth the stop.

Rough Point (originally built by a Vanderbilt) was the home of tobacco heiress Doris Duke and is preserved just as she left it upon her death. Guided tours are available and quite informational. Though a large mansion in its own right, it is a different...More

We did not do a guided tour (unsure if one was available, but that may have been better) and there was no audio tour. There were handouts about the art in the house, and there were people in every room to help. Some of these...More

Breathtaking views. Fabulous museum. Lovely guides - just a remarkable location. The price while not cheap ($25 pp) is well worth the expense. The are serveral very interesting collections and a Renoir in Doris' very garish bedroom. Will go back again and again.

We had visited several of the Newport "cottages" but never this one. Our docent was very knowledgeable and made the tour extremely interesting. Great location. We enjoyed walking the grounds after our tour

Home is beautiful and tour was very informative. Seems to have less rooms open for viewing than other homes in Newport. Make sure you get a chance to see Rough Point and the gardens.

The house has great art work on the walls. The guide was very well informed and answered all questions.

I don't know where cruises arrive, so I can't tell you for sure. There are bus/trolleys from the Newport Visitor's Center, but the schedule/route varies by season. On the off season they do not make as many stops, so there... More
