Different than the other mansion tours in that you feel that you really get to know the last owner, Doris Duke, as you tour the home. This is a live guided tour as opposed to an audio one. The tour group was small and the guide very knowledgeable about Doris's personality and interests (love of her dogs, pet camels, etc).... More

This is the previous home to Doris Duke. She left a lot of money to the Newport Restoration Foundation, who manage this property and many others. It is well kept and the exhibits are engaging and good for all ages. The gardens are glorious, he 2 camels were unexpected, but lovely, and overall, it's a great place for children as... More

The house is large and well appointed, and actually feels like it could be lived in still. The tour guide was very well informed and I found the whole experience very interesting. My only (vague) criticism is that I couldn't take any photos, but I can understand and respect that. I imagine that flash photography in particular could damage some... More

After the splendour of the mansions this is a more tasteful house. The tour guides are excellent and gave a very informative insight into her fascinating life. You should not miss this house when in Newport

This mansion is not on the main tour but it was an enjoyable addition to the rest. It is a guided tour and takes about an hour. Our tour guide was fantastic and really helped you see into the life of the Duke family.

The tour was interesting, although highly positive and skipped over negative aspects of Doris Duke's life. The cost was $25 a person for 90 minutes. Got to walk the outside grounds. Go on a nice weather day.

Amazing history of the life of the Dukes, especially the latest inhabitant, Doris. What a wonderful and philanthropic and interesting woman she was. Just opened in 2000 as she died in 1993. The exhibits of art and articles changes as she collected so much during her life. This is a great mansion to visit.

This mansion had one of the most beautiful properties, situated right along the water with gardens around it. This is a personal tour which runs on the 1/2 hour, and it is a nice change from the headsets you tour with at the other mansions. I highly recommend this property which is separate from the Newport Preservation Society mansions......it is... More

The other Newport mansions are from the Gilded Age as is Rough Point, but Rough Point was restored by Doris Duke in the 1960s. It is a much more recognizable decor style. Just magnificent. The view here is stupendous.
