This is a great place to learn about and to see first-hand the wooden boat building story. Open work sheds and barns, very knowledgeable staff. Definitely a great place to visit in Newport.

The Coronet is 131 ft sailboat undergoing restoration. It is huge and offers a fascinating view of the skeleton of the boat in progress. Staff at the school are knowledgeable and helpful. The school projects are beautiful. Best of all it's free!

On a recent trip to Newport we stumbled across this outstanding, and interesting, attraction. Essentially this is a working, endangered-skills training school, training students in the art of yacht restoration. In addition, their campus (i.e. working workshop/yacht shed) is freely open to the public for...More

You can go up to the second floor balcony and watch the tradesmen working on repairing boats. Quite an interesting experience.

Nice to see the trade of building and maintaining boats is still being taught to the next generation. The self guided visit is nice and there is the opportunity to watch the progress.

We came upon this place by accident. What a lovely surprise. It's a school that specializes in the restoration of yachts. There are several different ships on the property in varying degrees of repair. They were very warm and well coming and encouraged us to...More
