Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

I felt fortunate that I was able visit Rosecliff while the Pierre Cardin exhibit was there. The fashions which were on display were truly amazing and representative of their time. While the mansion is not as opulent as some of the others, the tour is...More

After seeing the Breakers, Elms and Marble House I was disappointed with Rosecliff. It’s outside grounds are beautiful however once inside it felt like a wedding hall. Most of the rooms were bare and not quite as taken care of as the other mansions. Took...More

Rosecliff is not as spectacular as the Elms, Marble House or the Breakers. I have been to two black-tie events here that were well done. Great setting for a fancy event but as a straight tour, the other houses stand out.

There is a self-guided audio tour for this house that allows you to take your own pace inside the house. The grounds are great as well and worth a walk around. If you are in Newport, this is one for the to-do list and worth...More

Fabulous! So cool to experience an event in a place like this with so much historical fascination. The on site catering staff were amazing and all the food was delicious!

All of the Newport mansions are extravagant and over-the-top but Rosecliff features a little different back story (more of a rags-to-riches tale) than the other "blue blood" houses. The tour is fairly short and it wasn't nearly as crowded as the Breakers and other larger...More

This mansion was where the original GREAT GATSBY with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow was filmed. Added an extra touch to see the great lawn of the backyard and the view of the Narraganset.

A must see if traveling to Newport. Important to take the guided tour to really learn all the great things that happened at this place, and all the history it has. Beautiful mansion and gardens.

I had the Breakers Plus pass, which means you can go to the Breakers and then one other house of your choice. I would NOT recommend this as your 2nd house if you are only going to see 2. There are very few rooms within...More

What a great tour. The mansion was beautiful and surely was very popular in it's day. The parties and balls thrown here must have been the talk of the town.

Hi! There is no set dress code because the Pierre Cardin exhibition is just like any other museum exhibition you would go to. Dress as fashionably as you'd like - but definitely, wear comfortable shoes is the one thing I... More
