I've been to the Breakers many times over the past 20 years, but had never been there for the Christmas celebration. While I know that historically no one decorated the Breakers because it was a summer "Cottage", it still was a lovely place to see...More

This mansion is like being in a museum. Everywhere there are carvings, paintings, frescoes ...the most opulent of materials, gilt, alabaster, crystal,....one room is decorated in platinum! Our visit was during Christmas and each room had a decorated tree.

The home - quite literally a mansion - was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It was a lovely time to visit. The self-paced audio tour was excellent. You could choose just the basics or go depth with additional recordings.

Having visited the gorgeously decorated Newport Mansions at Christmas time before, we didn't think we would want to do the same thing again, but we saw the notice about the special evening celebrations and as we were staying in Newport for a couple of days...More

Holy mackerel Andy! People live like this? Far too ostentatious to even comprehend. Extreme, no, FAR FAR extreme on how to spend money when you have so much you are literally drowning in money. We toured The Breakers yesterday and were overwhelmed by everything. I...More

It was very interesting to see the Breakers. We ended up learning a lot more than we thought. We enjoyed the self tour and the stories that accompanied it.

Headed to Newport for the day with a friend. The Breakers came up as a must-do item so we decided to check it out. The mansion was decorated for the holiday so our expectations were to tour a mansion with beautiful Christmas trees. What we...More

My husband and I toured the Breakers a few weeks ago. The free video tour was an excellent addition to the visit. The artwork and furnishings of the Breakers are magnificent.

Go at Christmas...what a display..worth every penny of the 3 tour package..did the Elms also...just a nice afternoon, soaking up the millionaires life from the early 1900's. And to think, this place was almost DEMOLISHED!! Bravo to the Preservation Society...

It's like taking a tour back in time and experiencing the life of The Vandlerbilts. Truly a mansion preserved in time. Come dressed properly yet comfortable. Proper shoes is a must as you will have to use the stairs as the mansions are various levels....More

On this tour you can go at your own pace. I would think with two children, an hour would be ample time. It really depends on you however because you do go at your own pace and not rushed at all.
