During times of high water flow, March/April during snow melts from Arizona's White Mountain Range, the water flowing over these falls creates a thunderous noise. The water is so filled with mud and silt from extensive erosion that it's a dark brownish-red color. The falls, in several stages, are higher in their overall height than Niagara Falls, but the volume... More

I visited this place on Thanksgiving day, I was expecting a completely dried out Little Colorado river, but as I accidentally drove over the river with about few inches of water and river was running. This is easy to find location, I-40 east from FLAGSTAFF exit Winona Road (exit 211) and turn left to Townsend-Winona Rd go few miles(2.3) and... More

I have taken two trips out to Grand falls this year. The first time it was dried up and i was a little disappointing, until my sister an i started hiking around the area, I was fun getting to sit in giant holes in the rocks. The second time I want with my boyfriend and the falls were flowing, it... More

I'm not sure how I got to hear about this waterfall but I drove there without any problem in a regular hire car and spent three or four hours exploring and taking photographs. My visit was in April so the 'chocolate' water wasn't happening but the falls themselves are lovely. There was no-one there when I arrived and perhaps three... More

This place, when flowing is wonderful, but be careful not to go when the waters have receded for then one sees the dying fish and frogs and it is a little gruesome.

Grand Falls is a very special place to see. When it's flowing after the monsoon rains it is spectacular. It's a bit of a drive and there isn't anything else out in the area to do, but it is a pleasant drive. Pack a lunch and some beerages and you can sit and enjoy the beauty and peace and quiet... Made the drive up from Prescott just to see the falls. Stormy but no water running. Well worth the trip anyways.

It was a very rough road. I agree have a jeep or 4x4. It is very hard to find no signs. I am glad to see someone say that it was dry as a bone. I wish the Native American I asked for directions from had told me it was dry. We were just there in June 2016 It was... More

My wife read the reviews so we went to visit this place. The reviews gave some good information about finding it. It is definitely off the beaten track and the road is not the best. The scenery was nice but when we went it was dry so there was no waterfall. It was still a different place to see and... More

Even in a rental car, it felt like a Jeep commercial because once you get here you’ve definitely arrived. Copy directions on-line and use your GPS because unlike a Mesa or Mountain you can’t see these Falls from a distance. The ground just disappears to reveal a spectacular two-tiered stone terrace. The river wasn’t flowing in late May but this... More
