Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I discovered this campus on a recent visit to Flagstaff. Although I don't attend NAU, our hotel was located on campus so I had a chance to check it out. The grounds were well kept and attractive. The exterior of the buildings did not appear run down or show any visible signs of aging. As a bonus for those who want to get from Phoenix Sky Harbor airport, there is a shuttle that runs from the airport directly to a parking lot on the campus. The current price is $40.00 one way. Shuttle options can be found on the Sky Harbor website and is not limited to college students.

Went to NAU said YES day and had a great experience, even in the snow. Nice campus and even better hospitality by the Ambassadors.

Taught there for 20 years. I wouldn't send my worst enemies kids to NAU. Student's are always the last priority, except when it comes got bleeding them and their parents for every last penny they can.

Pros:guaranteed class availability and fixed prices for 4 years.
Cons:Poor parent communication. My child did not receive effective outreach help after getting sick
The Bottom Line:I don't recommend this school unless your child is very independant, resourceful and 100% open and honest with you. Don't expect a nurturing and communicative environment.

After spending $25,000 sending my son to NAU for a year of study, both my son and I have only a $300 past due account to show for it. Talk about adding insult to injury! More than 1/2 of this past due balance is for late fees. Poor communication is just the beginning. After contacting student services on several occasions I was told that all communications must be in writing and could only come from the student. I even sent a check for all of the charges (except late fees) with endorsement indicating payment in full, they refused it. Now they are threatening my son's future credit by turning over to collection agency if we don't pay up. I refuse to pay out of principal. If they had better communication policies, my son likely never would have flunked out. There is no communication at all to the parent except for asking for money. You want detail on that bill? Forget it, unless your child requests it.

Some of you reading this will blame the child. No argument. It was his fault for not reaching out for help when falling behind. It was his fault he concealed his grades from us. It was likely his fault he got sick and failed to go to classes. It was his fault he did not do enough to catch up or explore options from the university that could help him. He is 18 and makes mistakes, so what! The university failed in its mission to provide an education and nurture this young man in his quest for growth and enlightenment.

Everyone makes mistakes, what separates the "Good, Bad and the Ugly" is how they deal with them. In this case NAU only cares about getting more money. They refused to waive late charges, refused to accept partial payment, refused to communicate directly, refused to provide billing details - Explanation of Benefit details. I don't even know if they submitted these health bills to my insurance, I was never able to get any details, meanwhile I lose my job, my benefits and access to my HSA monies. I ended up losing those funds since they were not spent. If I had gotten those bills in time I could have paid for them with HSA funds.

I never used any financial assistance; I paid over $25,000 in cash to send my son to NAU. It was a poor decision. If you are considering NAU, consider my story. It could happen to your child and you too.

We were looking forward to visiting NAU and their art museum for the first time. We got the times of the museum on the college's website, as well as a map and parking directions for the museum (park in the assigned spaces tnen go in an get the parking pass at the museum).
The students we met were very helpful in giving us directions--we parked in the museum spaces, went into the wrong building but students helped us to the correct building (the grand 1899 Old Main), found the museum which had a sign that it was closed that day. We were disappointed but did see their great RC Gorman sculpture. When we returned to the car we found that in the short time we were there, we had gotten a ticket for parking illegally! Obviously very angry, I called the parking department to complain that they did not follow their own procedures. He was very pleasant but told me I could appeal online which I said I would not do but he could resolve the issue for me.

Too bad this incident left a bad taste. NAU has a beautiful campus, a long history of education and friendly, helpful students. I am not sure I would return there.

I'd go there if I were younger. Our nieces will start there in a few weeks. We will enjoy visiting her during her 4 years there.

I was not allowed to mention academic credentials or lack thereof concerning the university, so I officially make no comment on this. However, I should be allowed to comment on the, frankly, boring and disjointed architecture, and the small library for a major institution. This is probably all TripAdvisor will allow me to say. I have been there several times and nothing changes. The Lowell Observatory (worth seeing) is not on the University.
