IMA (San Juan Islands Museum of Art) A short walk from the ferry, IMA is the first art museum in the San Juan Islands. Along with a revolving repertoire of major exhibits of fine visual arts and workshops, IMA also offers a forum for local artists to display their work as part of its Artists Registry. IMA raises and distributes money to support art in the Friday Harbor elementary and middle schools, and runs the popular free "Family Art Days" program every Saturday in July and August in the orchard beside the museum. IMA is a registered 501 C 3 nonprofit organization and depends on donations, memberships, fundraising and a cadre of experienced, capable and dedicated volunteers.

This is a very nice museum for such a small rural community. The art is first class--much better than the crafty kinds of found in most small towns.

With only 2 rooms and an atrium, I was impressed with the content of this small museum. The curator does a lovely job with the exhibits and is very knowledgeable and friendly.

I am an art lover & came to Fri Harbor (town) just to see their exhibit Sep 8, 2016 during their posted Thurs open hours. Doors were locked & no one answered the phone. Sadly managed.

Yes, expensive. Two rooms of photos, some of which were fabulous, some of which were mediocre. No special senior pricing. Everything was well displayed, however.

I saw a great show last year and a moving installation. This year did not disappoint with a photography exibit by 3 iconic American photographers. Plenty of parking alongside the museum.

While we were there,an Ansel Adams exhibit was displayed and was terrific. The staff was very informative and helpful. The photos were displayed well and had thoughtful poems, thoughts, or sayings beside each photo.

I was lucky and saw a great exhibit, but I live in a city far larger that has equal if not worse exhibits. For a museum and place of this size, the museum is a gem for art loving visitors. Not sure if I would...More

I love Ansel Adams as much as anyone, but $10 to view two room of black and white photographs is excessive. The photos are nice , and well displayed, and the movie upstairs was interesting, but..............do they really need "security"? One tip: Go between 3...More
