A large and diverse offering, very enjoyable
The SA Botanical Garden is a relatively large attraction and you will want to plan on at least a couple of hours. Some of our favorite areas include the Lucile Halsell Conservatory Area (including the 4 pavilions surrounding it), the Texas Narrative Trail and the Overlook. If you're pressed for time, consider skipping the Family Adventure Garden (unless you have kids perhaps) and South Texas. Overall a very reasonable cost and good value.

    A parklike garden experience.
I didn't know what to expect since it is January even though it was 70 degrees the day we visited. We did have freezes last week. There was a lot to see with winter gardens and there are also a lot of tropical plants in greenhouses. We enjoyed it all. One complaint is that they really need to give you a map as it is a large area to walk or they could at least place board maps strategically around the park so you can tell where you are. Prices will put it out of many families budgets.

    Peaceful Experience
I visited the Botanical Garden on a very humid day. It had been raining previously. Despite that, it was very nice to see all of the pretty flowers and plants. I explored a bit, kinda got a little lost here and there (the map was a little confusing to me). But, I think I saw *most* things. There was also some construction going on and some areas roped off for private events. Overall, it was still very peaceful.

This is a very large garden so pace yourself. There are lots of pretty arbors with benches where you can sit and enjoy the plants. I loved the flowering cactus, the rose garden and the Japanese garden.

I made a reservation to drive one hour to the restaurant with an out of town visitor. We arrived to a completely empty dining room but were told that the only available seating was on the 100 degree patio where also no one was sitting. I explained that no one mentioned that we would have to sit on the patio with the reservation. They were unapologetic and ready to turn us away saying there was no seating because other guests would arrive in 30 minutes to fill the empty dining room. They reluctantly split a table top since a 4 top only had 2 people attending and they realized that I didn’t want to leave. But they were unfriendly about it. And I wondered if they intentionally served us substandard food because our salmon dishes were literally 1 inch wide and 3 inches long. And our salads were only lettuce verses the many other ingredients which were listed to be included. Even though I love the chef and have been to this restaurant a few other times, I will not return. It seems run by people not trained in customer satisfaction.
