With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

Pro: beautiful setting, huge range of animals from all over the world, quite cheap, easy parking. Cons: complex layout, costly food/drink inside park. We loved it! Visited on Dec 12 during early afternoon and it was very quiet. There isn’t a guided direction to follow...More

We had a great time visiting the San Antonio Zoo and seeing all the Christmas lights! Very beautiful! I was impressed at how clean the zoo was and what was really amazing was all the cats there! Small cats all the way to lions! I'm...More

We visited the zoo to see the Christmas lights. It was nice but we couldn’t see any animals and I think the visitors interrupted the animals’ sleep. Lots of pretty lites, a laser lite show and games for the kids. Used a Groupon so price...More

One of the best zoos I've been to! You can get extremely close (safely) to so many of the animals, and the layout is super efficient. Only issue was that we waited in line for 30 minutes when it opened at noon on a Saturday....More

This is a highly rated zoo and I am so sorry we missed it. We went to a "petting zoo" some sixteen miles from SAT instead. It's right next to the natural cavern exit. We spent a half day at the cavern since it was...More

We REALLY enjoyed the Giraffes! Getting close to such magnificant creatures is a worthwhile experience, all by itself. Food and drink prices near the obscene level.

I like San Antonio zoo. Personally I prefer over Houston's or Fort Worh's. I think the landscaping is very nice here, and you get to see the animals closely. I do think some enclosures are too small for especially larger animals, but this is the...More

The San Antonio Zoo is different from the Dallas or Houston Zoo. It has different animals and the atmosphere is better, although it is not as big, I feel you can do more, and be a art of the zoo experience here. There is a...More

Yes, once you leave you will need to depart at the Exit Gate. Tell the attendant that you want to return back, they will stamp you. Then you may re-enter the same day without paying again.
