- TyprgirlNashville, Tennessee33 contributionsEmbracing the PastOne might not like the looks of this statue, but Elizabeth Montgomery and “Bewitched” helped Salem embrace its grim past and turn witches into a month-long season of big business! It is noted that for centuries, Salem's port made it one of the wealthiest towns in New England. However, the town had fallen on hard times when the sitcom arrived and re-telling the stories of the witch trials became a way to boost the local economy. So, to give this POI a one star because one feels it’s an “ugly” statue is unfair. However you feel about it, we can now acknowledge the horrific events of 1692. (BTW, it took Salem 300 years to finally dedicate a memorial to the witch trials.)Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 December 2023

We revisited it the next day during daylight hours and didn’t have to wait at all to take a photo with the statue. Very easy to find.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 July 2024
- Grover RPensacola, Florida22,268 contributions20th Century Witches as wellGrowing up in the 1970's, Bewitched was still an active part of TV culture. When I saw this, I had it as a must see for our group, and it was the first thing we saw in Salem. Part of that is the statue is in a park in the middle of downtown Salem on Essex Street at the beginning of the pedestrian section. So much of this town is witches and 365 Halloween, I just think it was so smart on their part to include this to modernize the theme. It is a fun stop and made for pictures.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 September 2024

I always loved the tv show Bewitched and Samantha was my favorite. I think it is a beautiful statue in the middle of town and it is awesome to know that they actually filmed a lot of episodes here. It isn't just a statue but a beautiful statue with so much history and significance behind it.

A bronze of a TV show.
There is nothing really memorable about the statues: neither its size, its technic, or its message. The tv show boosted the tourism and Salem attractivity, a big milestone for Salem locals.

This statue is in the main shopping area of Essex Street - about half way down. Its in an open area beside a couple of cafes and Washington Street runs off to one side. You have to look twice to realise it represents Samantha in 'Bewitched'. Not a very good likeness we thought

A fun place to take a little break from all the walking. Husband and I both love this show and Elizabeth Montgomery so it was a nice spot for both of us. We also learned how this statue changed Salem during the walking tour we did.

This statue is set on a corner, easy to get to, easy to get pictures with. The show was before my time and I never knew they recorded some shows in Salem but as soon as I saw the statue I knew it was from Bewitched. Got our picture and learned a little history about it.

This was a pleasant surprise to see. I expected all statues in Salem to be of historic people.
I remember watching this show when I was a kid. Of course I had to go take a few pics.
There's a Little Free Library nearby too!

The statue is very ugly, doesn't look anything like Elizabeth Montomery. It doesn't help that many locals don't like it either. When they unveiled the statue back in 2005, the tenants in the apartment building behind it hung a banner which read "SHAME."

I thought it was very interesting that the guidebook I read referred to this iconic landmark at the "TV Land Statue." Prepare yourself for throngs of tourists and be ready to wait to take your turn with the statue.
Photo spot etiquette dictates that you take your photos, then step to the side to review them, entering back into the queue if the desired shots were not achieved. Don't stand there like a dork in front of the statue, hunched over your phone - move aside and let others have a turn!

I would like to know that Salem trashes its witch crush
19 hangings later. The witch Is on Town vehicles, cabs, and is a school sports symbol .Even Elizabeth wasn't that crazy about the statue.

EM passed years before the statue was placed there.
