Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Locals recommended this upscale lounge/bar to us and that speaks volumes. My partner and I went there for after dinner drinks and we thoroughly enjoyed this place. Stylish red interior complimented old movies projected on a wall, and I thought that the bas-relief on the other wall was a masterpiece (I am not sure it's bas-relief but don't know what else to call it, see picture attached). The DJ was awesome and we enjoyed dancing as well. Also, they make yummy grilled cheese sandwiches which came in handy after a few too many drinks :))

The R is for Rialto Theatre as the R Bar is associated and located right across the alley. R is also for Rory O'Rear who is the manager. But the R is for RED, the decor is really cool and really red! The full wall desert sunset 3D relief metal mural is worth seeing along with the red cactus light fixtures, etc. The bartenders are real mixologists making creative cocktails. There is a sliding window so they can serve the outside patio group as well. I was there for a foodie friday happy hour event with a group called KYKLO playing Old World Celtic music. And from the crowd on the patio it seemed that R could also be for the Regulars who were there enjoying themselves. I also liked the community partnership with Johnny Gibson's Market sandwiches provided free for this event.

This cool place has what you're looking for; whether to dance, talk or just hang out waiting for a show next door at the Rialto. Special drink pricing if you are going to the event as well. On weekends a band plays outside, where if you choose to... Enjoy a smoke!!! I truly love this place and make it a point when in Tucson to stop in.
And as mentioned in the Title... Emily the bartender not only makes super duper drinks, she is smart and willing to chat it up with you if you're so inclined. This bar is awesome. Give it a try... from Bruce Anderson

Loved the metal work on the walls and location. Interesting cocktail list has something for everyone. Bartenders seemed putout when our group of friends walked in and were not the friendliest. If their attitude was a bit better, this would have been a 5.

I went to R Bar tonight before a show for "happy hour." I bought 2 drinks, gave the bartender a $20 for what she told me was a $4 tab, and she subsequently proceeded to tell me, no, I gave her $2. Others were waiting so I paid her, unfortunately, even though I was pretty sure all I had in my wallet were $20 bills. I checked my wallet later and found out, yes, indeed, I was short. I'd advise going to one of the many reasonable bars or lounges in the area rather than this overrated dive. In case you're wondering, I had not had anything to drink prior to this fiasco.

We had tickets to see Ann Wilson at the Rialto, and received an email that morning telling us about the R Bar. Our ticket entitled us each to half off one drink. The bar sits right across a cool mural-filled alley from the Rialto, and you can access the Rialto directly from their outdoor patio.
Garrett took good care of us, poured us a couple nice drinks (even the 2nd one was at a VERY reasonable price....especially for downtown). The entire place is decorated in red, and they have some impressive metalwork on the walls and light fixtures. There's a huge screen on one wall that has some wild footage playing constantly...stuff that, if you were on drugs, would probably freak you out!
We went back there after the show and it was comfortably full. Ordered a grilled cheese sandwich to split and it was not bad...not great either. We just needed food!
I'd definitely stop here again when downtown. Check ahead of time though, because if there's not a show at the Rialto, they might not be open.
