Arizona can be named -- land of cacti. This pass is one of examples... If you like cacti and if you are in the area, then this is one of places where you will find them ;-)

We had some time before dinner, so took a drive over and took in the overlook - it was a nice little explore and interesting to see neighborhoods leading up to the pass,

We've travelled this road a couple times and I'm always more impressed with the gorgeous view. Narrow, winding, two-lane road, deep canyons, rock formations and Saguaro Cactus beside the road, lining the canyons and mountainside. There are some pull off points along the road to...More

Gates Pass is a lovely and practical drive if you're out and about in the Saguaro National Park~ the connection to Ina road is a practical pick up that skips the worst of the highway while being 1000% prettier. Gorgeous cacti and easy driving~

Another of Tucson's beautiful scenic roads. A drive up, around, and down Gates Pass Road can be a little white knuckle for the weaker explorer but well worth the short diversion.

We loved it, even went back to back nights to see the sunset (2nd night to see the storm). They need to do something thought about the ignorant people leaving garbage on the ground and even a used condom. Absolutely ruins an incredible creation.

Loved the silence of the desert. It was very soothing, wind blowing, gorgeous sunset view. Brought our visitors from Chicago to see it and they were impressed.

Gates pass is a great place to watch the sunsets. Sunsets here are never a disappointment. I love this pass.

All above are true. There is a couple of parking lots off the road and a covered viewing area but no picnic facilities, no grills or bathrooms. Just parking and trails.

You can stay in the parking lot and see the sunset or go to a paved overlook area right next to the lot.

At the top of the pass is a nice parking lot. Looks like paths go out several directions.
