Beautiful drive both ways. Take time to stop at the overlooks and look at the views. You can see Old Tucson Studio one way and city of Tucson the other. The drive is twisty roads and narrow in some places but well worth the drive....More

Every time I visited my friend in Tucson, she always took me here for sunset viewing. It was just at the western edge of the City of Tucson (just as another review titled "where Tucson meets Sonora Desert..."), so it doesn't take too long to...More

We take Gates Pass on our way to the Desert Museum, Saguaro National Park and Old Tucson Studios are also out that way. We always stop in the parking lot to enjoy the views, the rugged terrain filled with saguaros, and the beautiful views of...More

On the West side of Tucson is Gate's Pass. On the East side is the Saguaro National Park. See both. From Gate's Pass you will see many rock formations used as backdrops for a bunch of movies, especially John Wayne.

We usually take Gates Pass on the way to the desert musuem. I love coming back to Tucson this way. On a clear day, the view of the city is so pretty. The road is fun to drive in a sports car (not getting crazy....)...More

Turn off the GPS and use the map to take you on this beautiful road on your way to the Desert Museum. Wide views that you can't find anywhere else.

We drove Gates Pass several times on the way to and from the Desert Museum, Old Tucson and Saguaro National Park. It's a beautiful drive past a saguaro forest. There are a couple of parking areas for scenic outlooks. Hiking trails are also near the...More

This is where Tucson meets the Sonoran Desert! It is a great stopping point when going to visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum or Saguaro National Park West. The drive is a bit steep and it is a favorite with cyclists so be careful and watch...More

My favorite hobby is taking sunset/rise pictures and when I don't have time to hike to my favorite spot in Tucson Mountain Park, this serves as a good backup. It is probably the only place in the Tucson area to get an unobstructed view of...More

Traveling through on the way to Grand Canyon. I LOVE the cactus. I've never seen anything like it in real life. A great view!

You can stay in the parking lot and see the sunset or go to a paved overlook area right next to the lot.

At the top of the pass is a nice parking lot. Looks like paths go out several directions.

If you travel from Interstate 10 up Speedway towards gates pass you'll be okay. Just do not pass the parking lot at gate pass. The road is extremely curvy after that and the drop-off is tremendous.
