Gates Pass is really just a drive, I know there are trial off from it but to be honest I've never taken them. I do believe however that this is the road you should always take going to Old Tucson or the Desert Museum because the view is the most amazing and if you are lucky enough to hit it... More

We had the good fortune to travel through Gates Pass a couple of times on our trip to Tucson. We needed to drive on Gates Pass Road to get to The Sonoran Desert Museum and Old Tucson. It was so much fun -- and scenic. Saguaros were everywhere - along with so many other types of cactus. The road is... More

Best sunsets in Tucson, the view of the saguaros is amazing! Best scenic route to get to the must-see Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum.

Great panoramic views for the photographer or anyone else. There are a couple of great observation points along the road where you can pull off and break out the camera. Sunrise or sunset are great times to be at these scenic overlooks.

A great place to catch a magnificent Tucson, AZ sunset!. Easy to get to. Head west on Speedway Blvd. until it turns into Gates Pass Road. Follow Gates Pass Road to the crest of the hill and turn right into parking lot. Lots of parking available. Several easy hiking trails to hike on.

Ok- disclaimers first- we are talking sunset times- if not sunset- it's pretty desert - but nothing beyond. However- you have the possibility of one of the most awesome sunsets at this location. Now to achieve this -this will require some effort - --one- you will need to arrive early - the place and limited parking will fill up. two-... More

This is a beautiful drive over the Tucson Mountains providing incredible panoramic views of the area. However, please realize this is a traveled road and not a tourist stop. My brother once came around a blind corner to a tourist stopped on the road which caused him to flip his car and almost took his life. While it is spectacular... More

We never tire of this beautiful drive, and we are never bored with the wonders of the desert. The Sonoran Desert is unique to most who are visiting and this is a lovely way to view it. There are some observation points for photos and quiet times.

Wonderful drive, great scenery, pull off spots for photography. Keep you eyes on the road when driving, the road twists and turns but well worth the drive. Excellent tourist spots on both ends of the pass, Old Tucson Movie Studios andWildlife Museum on the other. Both great stops, especially for children.

Nice Sunday drive into the desert mountains. Easy to get to from Tucson-20 minutes. Go early or late to avoid tourist traffic between 10-2.
