This is a breathtaking drive. We've done it a couple times on the way to Old Tucson, there are pull off areas for viewing. It is just a gorgeous drive and if you ever have time....take it.

Worth the drive to see the beautiful landscape and cacti. With the recent rain everything was green even some flowers blooming.

Gates Pass is one of the best places to watch a sunset in Tucson. It is just a short drive from downtown Tucson. There is limited parking but just wait as cars are constantly coming and going. Teenagers and kids over 10 will enjoy climbing...More

Being on Gates pass and looking at the beauty of the lower levels is awesome. Very peaceful and serene. Night time is a glitter in the sky! First place I drove to when I arrived at Tucson in 1988. Fell in love with the majestic...More

I wouldn't call this drive a destination in itself, but it is very nice and is the main way to get from Tucson proper to the desert museum on the other side of the ridge. The driver will need to keep both eyes on the...More

This pass is along the crest of the Tucson Mountains. The road is a bit windy, narrow and slow, but the scenery is worth it. Many places to pull off and enjoy the scenery. A popular place (with locals and non-locals) to watch the sunset....More

A great tour to take guest too. A true view of the sights in the southwest desert. A very peaceful tour of the Arizona desert viewing the many southwestern desert plants and cactus. Interesting to young at heart as well as adults.

You can stay in the parking lot and see the sunset or go to a paved overlook area right next to the lot.

At the top of the pass is a nice parking lot. Looks like paths go out several directions.

If you travel from Interstate 10 up Speedway towards gates pass you'll be okay. Just do not pass the parking lot at gate pass. The road is extremely curvy after that and the drop-off is tremendous.
