Went to "A" Mountain(named for University of AZ). Spectacular 360 degree views of Tucson. As you drive up, you park just below the painted "A" and view most of Tucson or you can go to the parking lots and walk 2/10 of mile to "A"...More
You easily drive up there and admire the vista from the car park to the south and west. But to be able to see the beautiful vista over all of the city it's advisable to climb up to the peak. The peak is not stroller...More
A Mountain is sort of a hallmark of Tucson. The A gets painted a few times a year for different events. It’s on the side of Sentinel Peak. You can drive up the hill and stop and look at the big A. Some like to...More
We wanted to see the big letter A painted white on the side of the mountain for the University of Arizona sports teams. The hiking to the letter A is rocky and narrow. It was fun but it would have been easier if we had...More

We have visited Tucson many times over the years but somehow always missed driving up to Senitnel Peak ("A" mountain). This year we decided we had to see what all the hype is about. The view is amazing: all of Tucson to the east, and...More

Tumamoc hill is the hill next to "A" mountain and is one that is for pedestrians only. Since I cannot include a link, a search of Tumamoc hill in Tucson will get you instrctions on how to get to the entrance. You might also consider Picacho Peak. It is a short but fun hike with cables to pull yourself up the steeper parts, and the view is incredible.
