We loved two step beach. The snorkelling was awesome - we saw a ton of fish species, a sea turtle, white tipped shark, Moray Eel and more. The water was easy to swim in and nice and clear. The beach is all lava rock so there's not sand everywhere which we liked. There were locals playing music and sharing their... More

One can't snorkel in the National Historical Park next door, but the snorkeling at "Two Step" in the bay is excellent. We've been to this location on several trips over the years, and it has consistently been the best snorkeling we've found here. Large numbers of a great variety of fish, usually a large number of turtles, and some great... More

This beach is across the parking lot from Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Park - can easily see the park and snorkel on the same day. Beach has two steps (lava rock) that you sit on and enter the ocean for wonderful crystal clear snorkeling in a very protected bay. Awesome for beginners and lots to see under water. One of... More

My husband and I have been to Honaunau Bay on several occasions. It is an historical site and gives a great insight into the origin of Hawaii. The grounds are sacred and must be respected. This is also one of the best snorkelling beaches on the Big Island. A must to visit on your trip.

It's small and right next to the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Park. Not the bumb hang out, homeless people beach like many on any island or Hilo area, Richardson Beach is a homeless shelter!!!!!!! Can actually swim there with the locals, not that I would..

Two-step is an easy location to access for snorkeling. Park at the nearby historical park for $5 if a more accessible location is not available. The walk is only one city block. Careful with the little sea urchins in all of the cracks in the rock - especially as you are getting out. The snorkeling is very good. Not the... More

Two step is one of the best snorkeling spots on the island, with easy access off the tide-pools. We saw a whole pod of dolphins playing in the bay and relaxing. Across the bay is the National Monument (not going to try to spell it). you could easily spend a whole day here. Bring sunscreen, snacks, and snorkel gear. Picnic... More

Also known as 2 step. What a great place to snorkel! A lot of locals go here as well. Park your car on the side of the road and walk down. You may want to take a picnic as well. Water is crystal clear. Lots of tropical fish

As the last remaining Puuhonoa in the state, this place has an indescribable energy throughout the entire park. A place with plenty of historical value, some of the best snorkeling/scuba on the planet, and tons of beauty. Loads of hawaiian "canoe plants" as well there such as wild sugar, breadfruit, tapa, and mini fruits. A must stop on the Big... More
