I just revisited the duck pond, after more than 20 years (received my first degree at UNM). It is still green, with lots of ducks and turtles in the ponds - they have also added a really nice waterfall right up where I used to sit and study! Visit during non-school hours, if you just want a calm place to... More

WE walked through campus after lunch on Sunday, down and around the duck pond from Central Avenue. There were lots of people out enjoying a lovely November day. People feeding ducks, photos shoots for families and couple to be. Worth walking by on a nice day.

I am not sure if it is more fun to watch the waterfowl or other folks feeding the ducks etc. but it certainly is an oasis on the concrete/adobe campus. You can relax, read, take a snooze, bring lunch from many of the take out places on campus. It is also a view into the UNM groove.

The Duck Pond is a great grassy place with plenty of trees to sit under and watch the ducks and look for turtles. Albeit slightly hilly, it's well taken care of and well worth the visit. Great for family picnics and dogs or just hanging out and relaxing.

On the UNM campus, the pond was neat for people with little kids who want to get out. Also ideal for catching a nap in the shade on a warm day. Dogs love it and the park is kept clean. A little hilly so those with a wheelchair may miss out on some of the paths.

If you are on UNM campus and looking for a nice shady place to sit and just enjoy being outside you should head over to the Duck Pond. Lots of benches about to take a break. With a lovely manicured and fountained pond to view.

We live in the north campus neighborhood 5 minutes by car from UNM. We take walks around the duck pond, to the student union area, with detours past the chapel and here and there. The fall especially is glorious on campus, worth dealing with/paying for parking. If you don't have a parking pass, there is a paid parking garage east... More
