The White Oak Road Battlefield is not a museum - just a collection of signs that document the battle. The lack of a visitor's center / museum actually helps one connect with the battle on a different level. Can't do the Petersburg Battlefield Tour without visiting here. Plus it's not far from Pamplin Park.

This battlefield is not well-marked on the Petersburg Battlefield visitors' map, but we decided to stop just to see it. We were pleasantly surprised to find a walking trail (courtesy of the Civil War Trust) through the thick woods, with explanatory plaques at intervals. Civil War history buffs will find this site interesting, and worth a visit.

Your can see some of the mounds the defenders put up here while walking in the wooded area. Plenty of parking.

It provided information on the end of the Civil War battle site. It was of many stops which help understand the final days before the end of the war.

White Oak road Battlefield essentially is an action that took place in 1865 and marked a turn in the line defending Petersburg and the flank at Five Forks. The area provides a short but scenic walk and several interpretive signs detailing what took place. Nice spot for a quick stop to eat but not a lot there so maybe a... More
