The relationship of the early Mormon settlers and the Federal Government was difficult and the military had a significant role. This museum covers this and also covers subsequent military roles that Utah citizen soldiers themselves played in U.S. history. There are some interesting artifacts from mountain howitzers, rifles, and uniforms from the territorial and Indian war period up to helicopters... More

I took my 10 year old grandson to the museum one afternoon last month before school started. We both really enjoyed the museum. It is very well organized and easy to follow the history of the fort and the military experience in the West. It has a nice display of military equipment from pre-WWI to the latest available. Well worth... More

Ft. Douglas today is but a fraction of the sprawling western military reservation of decades past. Once used as an outpost to monitor the early Mormons, it is now an Army Reserve Center that hosts several Army Reserve units. The museum sits on the north side of the Center property, just outside the fence. Outside there are several static displays... More

We went to Fort Douglas Military Museum on Memorial Day Weekend. Although they were moving, there was still many good exhibits on the war effort. The tanks, planes, cannons, cars, and military trucks that we saw outside was also good. There is also a memorial to 9/11.

No problem finding parking on the street outside. We had a bit more problem finding the museum, as they had moved most of it next door! No signs. The exhibits are military in nature, and have a material Viet Nam inclusion. Uniforms, firearms, swords, picture boards and some navel history. Outside are tanks, helicopter, big guns, and similar exhibits. The... More

Finally a museum for us men! What was the highlight of my visit to Salt Lake City: the Mormon Tabernacle, Temple Square, Salt Lake Temple, Capitol building, Cathedral of the Madeline? These were the highlights for my wife, but not me! The wife has to drag me out to visit these rose gardens, horticultural exhibits, art museums, fossil museums, churches,... More

I enjoyed looking at all the military artifacts here. There are plenty of uniforms, as well as items from the old base chapel. This is a one building museum, but they also have military vehicles outside. There are tanks, helicopters, and other large equipment items. This museum is free, and worth a visit if you like military history.

Unfortunately at the time when we visited the museum was in the process of being moved into a recently renovated adjacent building. Whilst what we saw was interesting, it was a pity that so much had been packed up ready for the move. We'd like to see it again once the move is completed.

This place has had a revamp and it is beautiful. Love the monuments honoring women in the military. Its free and a great place for families and anyone. If you have not been in a while make sure you go. They also have special events all the time there
