This is a beautiful building all decked out in marble and rich in history. A great way to learn about the state.Visited October 2023Written 26 October 2023
- snapshotsofzenDenver, Colorado517 contributionsBeautiful capitolThe Utah State Capitol is beautiful! It sits on the top of a hill where you can see a great view of SLC and the Wasatch Mountains. Definitely make sure to walk around inside. The murals and artwork are a must see.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2023
- dambankerToronto, Canada1,803 contributionsCapitol with a viewHad some time to kill so I made a quick stop in here. Lots of on street parking right out front on this day. Took a quick walk around outside as the views from here are pretty cool. The architecture inside and out was impressive. The main hall was being used for wedding photos, so I didn't want to interfere and cut my walk about short. Interesting building and worth a visit for the views if nothing else.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 21 February 2024
- ksufan88Wichita, Kansas6,795 contributionsVery worthwhile building tourThe free tour is a great way to learn about Utah history and even goes a couple places that aren’t accessible to the general public. The building has numerous murals, exhibits and a few statues that educate visitors on state history. The architecture of the building and the earthquake supports in the lower level were quite interesting to learn about.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 May 2024
- Sophal HengPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania7 contributionsBeautiful Landmark with Spectacular ViewI guess this is an important landmark for Utahans because it’s the first place my cousin took me during my visit to Salt Lake. The building was under construction but it was still beautiful, nonetheless. The parking is free as most have noted. The view over the canyons (my definition) was beautiful. There was a fire at one part of the mountain when I was visiting and you can see it. She also pointed to Antelope islands area so yeah, you can see the land mass across the outside of the city. As for inside, it is a small building but beautiful. Many artifacts and historian information along with statutes that shows how proud Utahans are of their State. I suggest visiting while you are there.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 16 September 2024

This is a beautiful Capitol building with so much to see. It was very informative, so interesting to see how many movies have used Utah as there film location. So much history with visuals. Beautiful art work and magnificent history. Beautiful landscapes. You could spend many air conditioned hours here learning and absorbing Utah’s historyVisited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 September 2024

This is a grand state capitol building. Definitely worth a look. It is mainly self-guided, just wander around and check it out. The small visitor's center is also pretty neat. Enjoy.

This is a beautiful building worth at least a quick stop to see both the exterior and interior. Visiting on a Saturday morning, we were free to enter and walk around the inside of the building at our leisure. There were no tour guides or any other staff in the building, only tourists looking around.
Throughout the building, there were informative displays covering historical events or important figures in Utah's history. The interior is quite beautiful and a great place to take photos.
There is a gift shop in the tourist info center across the street from the building. To get here, it is walkable from the downtown area, but you will be going up a steep hill.

The state capitol building is a granite masterpiece rising on the hill overlooking the valley. Access is easy and the inside rotunda is a sight to see. To this day, the center hall can be rented for a wedding or celebration. You can peak you head into the various chambers when out of session to get a feel of real politics in action.

This is my third visit to the State Capital in Salt Lake City but previous visits it had been closed. It’s an impressive looking building sitting at the top of State St and overlooking the city. It is definitely one of the larger Capitol buildings (I have visited 47 including the US Capitol in Washington DC - which bears some resemblance to this building).
The views are spectacular and inside the building it’s very ornate. We did the self tour and got to see the House and Senate - but only from the door. The artwork and decoration throughout is stunning. Well worth a visit.

My partner and I decided to travel to the State Capitol building one evening whilst I was visiting in May just to check it out as you can see it from all over Salt Lake City. We were in awe at how colossal the building is up close and blown away by the views. We were only there for about 20 minutes for some photos, but would definitely recommend a visit!

The docent made the visit. Like many activities, the guide can make the experience. We were fortunate to have a woman who is a life long resident of the state and has given the tours for several years. I would hope others are as good, but can't say. We learned some about the building, but also a lot about the state. Our tour lasted about 45 minutes and extended another few minutes because she was so open about sharing information. The main entry has several exhibits that are well done and add to what you learn on the tour. Plenty of parking, but then we visited in one of the nine months the legislators aren't in session.

In town on a business trip, decided to do a little exploring, and came across the Capital Building. It is very impressive from outside sitting up on a hill, and even more impressive from the inside with many floors to explore. Doesn't take long to walk around the inside, but has a lot of interesting things to look at.

This was one of the most welcoming capitol building that I've been to in the United States. It invites the community in and has a range of historic exhibits, arts, and exhibitions that share different parts of Utah. You can roam the halls and take in the glory of the architecture. The security welcomes you in for a visit. Go for at least a few hours your first time.
We loved the Utah movies, some of the exhibits about indigenous peoples within Utah, some focus on Mormonism, and the different areas that shared how the capital was built with all Utah-based materials and firms.
Great views inside and outside the Capitol. We were delighted to see that it was picture taking time for prom night and all the high school students in their best dress.
There are probably some places where the history could be bolstered to tell more about the tensions that relate

Planning a day at the Temple Square area but would also like to see the capitol. How far is it from the Temple Square area and is there public transportation? I have read there is a free zone downtown but I don’t see the light rail goes there. Thanks in advance.
Written 20 August 2019
It’s about a 15 minute walk between the two locations. I’m unsure of light rail. We found Uber to be easy to use in SLC.

On my visit there was no place to pay and so I wandered at leisure, but it is now a year since my visit and maybe things have changed. Suggest you phone direct to ask.
