Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fox glacier trail an easy 45 min 1 hour walk
Beautiful large trail in a scenic tropical forest.
Must say the glacier is quite far away to get a good look
Nevertheless, everything around it is breathtaking

This hole was incredible, and definitely not something that we will forget! I realised I had lost my beanie after the hike and was absolutely devastated as my great grandmother had gifted it to me, but the kind staff’s services did not stop there. They called me the following day to let me know that they had found it and hand washed it. A little bit of kindness goes a long way…God bless Kevin!

From no fault of the beautiful location, this walk was a bit of a disappointment. The old walk had been washed away in recent floods and the new walk has you walking up hill for the majority of the way to a small opening in the bush to see the glacier which is around 3kms away. Of Fox and Frans Josef, Frans which also suffered flood damage to the paths was the better view of the two.

Our group only made it halw-way as the heavy rain ended our try to finish the hike. Surrounding nature and hills are really beautifull.

Loved the walk up to the glaciers closest viewing point.
Lucky to bump in to a German guy with an exceptional camera and tripod so we got to see the glacier close up.

We took a helicopter to the middle of the glacier and hiked with a guide. So awesome. My husband twisted his ankle and still thought it was worth the pain.

It's about ~1.5 hour (depending on how many photos you take) round trip walk from the parking lot to the base of the glacier.

We drove through the main township of Fox Glacier towards the glacier access road, where there is a huge car park. We had a camper van and there was ample parking in the car park. There was some toilets at the end of the car park, they were clean and maintained. There are lots of different walks around the area with choice of distances clearly marked. The walk to the main glacier was well maintained considering how many people walk on these tracks on a daily basis. We walked for about 15/20 mins and took photos on the way. We were greeted by the most wonderful sight that im sure we will never see again as the glacier is slowly retracting. But to see such an untamed natural wonder was a memory to cherish. The information stated that due to a lot of rainwater recently the lookout point had been pulled back a bit, due to the water making the paths a little unstable. Certainly well worth going

It is so great in NZ that you can visit all these amazing sights for free. The Fox and Franz Josef glaciers are a sight to behold. Be prepared for a decent walk to them both - there are notices to tell you how far each walk is. The paths are always really well maintained, unless the weather has destroyed them that is! Both glaciers are well worth a visit. Try to time it right when there is a gap in the clouds or when they aren't too low, otherwise they may obstruct your view.
