Really? Flames continually burning in a forest for over 90 years - why doesn't it burn down? See for yourself the extraordinary sight of dancing flames, fed by a natural gas seep, surrounded by lush ferns and ancient beech trees. Have ‘billy tea’ and pancakes cooked over the flames. Half-day trip includes two hour guided walk, 4WD transport and a visit to a working deer farm in a beautiful valley full of oil prospecting history.

This was a brilliant half day activity. It was a classic LandRover Jeep ride from the town centre and out into the hill country and across the deer farm to where the bush walk started. The trail skirted along side the Blackwater river, so named...More

It was an excursion of our 8 day hiking tour in the South Island. The walk to the eternal flame through dense forest, some part covered with moss, took less than 2 hours. The walk is not difficult but there are tricky spots, like crossing...More

A very enjoyable experience. Steve took us in his Jeep through a deer farm to the native beech forest where we walked for an hour to the “natural flames” which are fuelled by methane gas. He made everyone delicious pancakes on the fire. We had...More

Thanks for the nice descriptive review. It's great to get out into the bush which we have so much of around here. Our trip makes it a little bit easier for people to do that, providing the transport and the hot drinks :-)
