About
Briar Ridge Vineyard is a 5 star winery nestled in the Mount View region of the Hunter Valley, a well renowned viticultural area. Originally owned by Murray Robson, the vineyards were first planted in 1974, and known as the 'Squire Vineyard'. This Iconic Hunter Vineyard was purchased in 1988 by Dr John Davis which makes up one third of his vineyard resources located throughout Australia which also includes Orange in Central NSW and Wrattonbully on the Limestone Coast. We are one of the leading producers of iconic Hunter Valley wines and have been awarded numerous accolades on both the National and International Wine Show Circuit. This is reinforced by our 5 star rating awarded by Australia's renowned wine critic James Halliday for 3 consecutive years running 2012, 2013 & 2014. Our Cellar Door is located two and half hours north of Sydney and is open 7 days a week. Offering the full spectrum of wine tasting and sales, we are recognised for our long history in the region and our well established wine club (find out more here). We have recently appointmented Gwyn Olsen as our new Chief Winemaker, a rising star of the wine industry. Gwyn studied Oenology at Roseworthy University in Adelaide, graduating in 2005, completing her first vintage in France, with a further six in New Zealand, and three in the Hunter Valley. She has recently joined an elite group of winemakers after being named DUX of the Australian Wine Research Institute, Advanced Wine Assessment Course 2012. Gwyn also joins the talents of Living Legend 'Karl Stockhausen', a winemaker with over 50 years of experience in producing iconic Hunter Valley wines. We take huge in acknowledging Karl's success by showcasing a range under our brand which typify traditional Hunter Styles; the Karl Stockhausen Signature range includes styles such as Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. In 2007, Karl was officially made a 'Living Legend' one of the six inaugural recipients of the Hunter Living Legends Awards. Briar Ridge is primarily a Cellar Door and online operation, although our wines are distributed to key independent retail outlets as well as on premise venues across NSW.

We enjoyed our late afternoon Radica tasting with Dave who was passionate about the wines and the region and gave us a great insight into the vineyard and its wines.

The manchego cheese and locally made honey was a perfect match with the quality wines we got to taste. We got to try some fine wines and enjoy Dave's stories which was a perfect end to our long weekend in the Hunter.

The vineyard is a little off the beaten track but has a very relaxed and friendly vibe with a huge range of quality wines and a long history in the Hunter. Highly recommend you go here.

Dave looked after us today and he was excellent. Sat out on the deck for nearly two hours slowly making our way through the offerings. We also had a bite to eat, which was very good.

Dave clearly has lots of knowledge and was very happy to have a chat about the wines.

We really enjoyed our visit, and will make Briar Ridge a must go to when we are next in the region.

We're so thrilled you enjoyed your time with us and we can't wait to see you next time you're in the area!

Absolutely loved our visit.
Friendly and enthusiastic service. Stunning platters with a range of delectable treats. A gorgeous view of the trees and mountains from a deck covered in climbing flowers. Even a little doggie tasting board for our pooch. Really really recommend!!!

We had a lovely wine picnic with our dog at Briar Ridge to celebrate a birthday. It was a lovely, relaxing afternoon with delicious wine (moscato) and food (cheese and charcuterie board). The service from Dani was absolutely amazing, she went above and beyond to help my partner's birthday experience be very special! Thank you!

We were booked in for a wine tasting at midday and a meal at Osteria at 1pm. To be fair we did arrive 10 minutes late, but didn’t get the first wine until after 12:30. As a result we didn’t sit down for lunch until 2.00,and didn’t get any food for well over an hour, despite prepaying.
This appears to be caused by massive understaffing, with only 2 people serving wine tastings, and 1 waitress covering the food. We had selected the fixed menu which consisted of a salad, pasta and a pizza. Instead of getting us started on the salad, all dishes eventually came out on after the other.
