About
Briar Ridge Vineyard is a 5 star winery nestled in the Mount View region of the Hunter Valley, a well renowned viticultural area. Originally owned by Murray Robson, the vineyards were first planted in 1974, and known as the 'Squire Vineyard'. This Iconic Hunter Vineyard was purchased in 1988 by Dr John Davis which makes up one third of his vineyard resources located throughout Australia which also includes Orange in Central NSW and Wrattonbully on the Limestone Coast. We are one of the leading producers of iconic Hunter Valley wines and have been awarded numerous accolades on both the National and International Wine Show Circuit. This is reinforced by our 5 star rating awarded by Australia's renowned wine critic James Halliday for 3 consecutive years running 2012, 2013 & 2014. Our Cellar Door is located two and half hours north of Sydney and is open 7 days a week. Offering the full spectrum of wine tasting and sales, we are recognised for our long history in the region and our well established wine club (find out more here). We have recently appointmented Gwyn Olsen as our new Chief Winemaker, a rising star of the wine industry. Gwyn studied Oenology at Roseworthy University in Adelaide, graduating in 2005, completing her first vintage in France, with a further six in New Zealand, and three in the Hunter Valley. She has recently joined an elite group of winemakers after being named DUX of the Australian Wine Research Institute, Advanced Wine Assessment Course 2012. Gwyn also joins the talents of Living Legend 'Karl Stockhausen', a winemaker with over 50 years of experience in producing iconic Hunter Valley wines. We take huge in acknowledging Karl's success by showcasing a range under our brand which typify traditional Hunter Styles; the Karl Stockhausen Signature range includes styles such as Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. In 2007, Karl was officially made a 'Living Legend' one of the six inaugural recipients of the Hunter Living Legends Awards. Briar Ridge is primarily a Cellar Door and online operation, although our wines are distributed to key independent retail outlets as well as on premise venues across NSW.

    Fantastic wines
Dave looked after us today and he was excellent. Sat out on the deck for nearly two hours slowly making our way through the offerings. We also had a bite to eat, which was very good. Dave clearly has lots of knowledge and was very happy to have a chat about the wines. We really enjoyed our visit, and will make Briar Ridge a must go to when we are next in the region.
Thank you for your excellent review, Mark! Dave's wine knowledge combined with his knowledge of the local area (and his love for a joke or two) leads to an amazing tasting experience, every time. We're so thrilled you enjoyed your time with us and we can't wait to see you next time you're in the area!

    Amazing experienxe
We enjoyed our late afternoon Radica tasting with Dave who was passionate about the wines and the region and gave us a great insight into the vineyard and its wines. The manchego cheese and locally made honey was a perfect match with the quality wines we got to taste. We got to try some fine wines and enjoy Dave's stories which was a perfect end to our long weekend in the Hunter. The vineyard is a little off the beaten track but has a very relaxed and friendly vibe with a huge range of quality wines and a long history in the Hunter. Highly recommend you go here.
Thank you for your incredible 5-star review! We are thrilled you enjoyed your Radica tasting with the ever-fabulous Dave - his love for Briar Ridge shines throughout the tasting. Hopefully you went home with a delicious drop & we hope to see you next time you're in the Hunter Valley!

    Amazing experience!
Me and my wife decided to visit Briar's Ridge due to the fact that there was a Tesla charger on property. What happened in the hours following will make us return to Brian's Ridge whenever we visit the Hunter Valley! We made an online booking for a wine tasting which seems to be the norm these days and were greeted by Bill on property. He made it seem like we were visiting an old friend as the conversation flowed the entire time we were there. Thanks to his vast knowledge of the region and in wines he was able to pin point a red that was perfect for our tastes. We are not really novices when it comes to wine but definitely not experts and really learnt a lot about the industry in the short time we were there. Shout out to Bill, Dave and the team for turning what was a good Hunter Valley trip into our favourite Hunter Valley trip so far! Highly recommend this hidden gem and will be back again!

First Class Wines - Wonderful Experience
A wonderful experience at Briar Ridge. It had been nearly 30 years since my last visit and the wines didn’t disappoint. Beautiful setting and we loved the relaxed atmosphere and decor and loved the dog wall of fame and available treats. Amy was a fantastic host and took us through a great selection of wines, providing lots of interesting details of each wine and giving us plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the experience - even providing us with some cheese, crackers and olives to enjoy through the tasting session. Sparkling Chardonnay and Stockhausen Semillon were standouts amongst an excellent and varied selection. Highly recommended.
