This should be called the salt & pepper beach because it's not black. It's worth a quick stop in conjunction with Big Beach. It's a very rough dirt road for maybe 1/8 mile. We had an SUV. In theory you might have some problems in...More

This beach is a black sand beach. It is down a little unimproved dirt road that needs a little attention. It is not a good beach to swim, the currents are a little rough and the sand drops of quickly. It is very beautiful and...More

This is a secluded black sand beach that can be hard to find and it requires you to follow a road that is in bad shape. The beach itself has nothing much to offer and if you already seen a black sand beach you can...More

If you don’t have time to do Road go Hana and want to see Black Sand. This was beautiful with black and red sand. Everyone was happy we made the trip south after full day of snorkeling!!!

No amenities, brutal access, scorching hot black and red sharp sand, near impossible access to the water. Sound bad? Not even a bit. This is the hidden gem of Makena State park. This beach is empty most of the time, with local fishermen the majority...More

We had to google directions to locate how to get to this black sand beach which actually was more red with some black in it. Couldn't swim due to winter conditions. The website also gave directions about where it would be decent to snorkel at...More

The black sand beach.... Coarse sand but with interesting tidal pools. The grandkids had a great time looking at fish, sea urchins and other little sea creatures. When walking on the beach be careful of the dried twigs with 1" spikes.
