Then to top things off she gets a Scotty Cameron putter. We were treated exceptionally well by everyone. The views on this course were breathtaking. Would play this again the next time I am in MauiVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2024

The course was in terrific shape, the challenge was intense with the afternoon winds, and the greens were consistent in their speed. July 2023 • Family
I had the great opportunity to play the Gold course with my son. Our family vacationed to Maui in July. Because of our son's Asst. PGA status, we were very fortunate to play a course that otherwise is out of reach for many.
The course was solid. It was long from the tips, about 7,000 yards, so there were plenty of long shots into the green. The rolling and undulating topography was especially challenging if that is something you are not used to. A good shot could end up in a bad place and bad shot in a good place, so patience was the order of the day. The views were noteworthy and you were able to see things only for those golfing there would be able to see.
The staff was very hospitable and accommodating. We had rental clubs and when I asked if there was a putter option, one of the outside specialists said, "Normally, what's in the bag is what you have to play with, but let me go check on something." I wasn't being overly picky, it was a putter shape and style that I had never played with. With that said, the kid brings me his own Scottie Cameron putter and says, "How about this one?" I told him it was perfect and promptly took care of him. The putter was my friend that day.
Overall: It was a great experience. The course is definitely worth playing. I think one would have to look at cost and what time of day to play. We got lucky with a 10 AM tee time that ended just as the trade winds were making their presence known. As for our game? The kid shot 75, the old man 95, but the day was memorable and I wouldn't trade a thing. Well, maybe a couple of shots here and there. :)

I've played the blue course in the past and was looking for something a little more challenging. I read that the Gold course was the most challenging of the 3 courses and decided to splurge on an afternoon round. Granted, I don't spend this kind of money on a round of golf normally but wanted to spoil myself. The views are amazing but the allure ended there. The fairways were in average condition but I was most disappointed in the greens, their condition and speed. Ridiculously slow putting surfaces that didn't seem maintained at all, inconsistent roll and no breaks reminded me more of a cheap public course. My course back home in Illinois is much cheaper and the greens are faster with more challenging break and true roll. Totally frustrated and feel like I wasted my money when I could have played the course I tried later in the week in the upcountry for 1/3 the price. Don't waste your money.

Played the gold and emerald courses using the mid week package deal. Also used the rental club deal that ran only $30 a day. Courses are in good shape and had nice views. Greens take some time to get the hang of and are somewhat slow. Using the package deal, the golf is unlimited if conditions allow and we played 27 holes on two of the three days. Pace of play was fine and very friendly staff--I'm sure they are glad to see some tourists back.

Got the first twilight spot at 3 PM and with nobody in my group and a several holes clear, I completed in 2:30. I wouldn't expect this regularly, but seems the most popular schedule is golf in the morning and pool in the afternoon with many of the guests, so this worked in my favor. The course is in great shape. I did play Emerald last year and liked that just a little better as I remember a little more elevation changes. But Gold is top notch.

We played the Gold Course at their twi-light rate and had a good time. The course conditions were good and the golf course is not tough for the average golfer to enjoy. If you're in Maui looking for a good time golfing, try this or any of the other Wailea courses for fun and views...

Great Maui Golf value...considering how much you can pay on Maui for the perfect conditions and awesome views.
Friendly service top notch clubhouse and golf shop. We played the Emerald course but all are great.

My wife and I visited Maui this past February before the pandemic hit the Islands. I played golf at Wailea Golf Club with my cousin who lives in Kahului. We had a very enjoyable afternoon on a scenic layout. Our wives met us at Gannon’s after the round for an extended Happy Hour dinner at sunset. It was a good way to top off our trip to Maui.

Amazing experience here on the Emerald Course. The course was in great condition. The greens were slow, put some weight behind those putts. Can’t wait to do it again. The staff treated me like a pro. The rented clubs reminded me that I need to upgrade my gear when I get home. Huge thank you to the entire team at the WGC.

We just recently played the Gold and Emerald courses, and played the Blue course 2 or 3 times on our previous trips.
They are all beautiful courses with amazing views.
Blue - is the easiest of the three, with wide fairways and more forgiving layout. So, we enjoyed playing this course when we were newer to the golf. This course does not have a practice driving range.
Gold and Emerald share the same club house and has a nice driving range. I thought they are similar, both have fabulous ocean views, and both courses are more challenging than Blue.
Gold is a bit more challenging compared to Emerald with longer and narrower fairways, and more hazards.
Emerald is very similar to Gold, just slightly easier, and with even better ocean views.
We loved playing at all three courses. If you are a novice, play the Blue. If you want to play holiday golf, and enjoy good views, play Emerald, if you enjoy a little challenge in your golf game, play the Gold.
They are only getting a 4 stars from me due to service. We did not encounter friendly service as was expected.

When does the course close throughout the year for overseeding the fairways and greens?

Aloha from the Wailea Golf Club! Thank you for your inquiry. Outside food and beverage is not permitted at our facility. Your cart will have a cooler attached and it will be stocked with ice and 2 bottles of water. There are water refill stations on the course about every 3 holes. Gannon's Restaurant is located in our Gold and Emerald clubhouse, and they also operate the snack carts on the course. You can purchase food, soft drinks, and beer/wine/cocktails from the beverage cart. They also have a great happy hour and one of the best views on Maui for your 19th hole. We hope to welcome you to the Wailea Golf Club soon!

What is the difference between the blue, emerald, and gold courses? Are some nicer than others? Do they have different skill levels? Thanks!
Written 23 July 2017
The Emerald and Gold courses are the most beautiful and resort like. They share a clubhouse with a great, upbeat and pleasant staff. Of these 2, the Emerald is easier to play, the gold has more character and is preferred by better players. Both have holes with nice views of the ocean.
The blue course is long and open. Some views of the ocean as well. Generally less busy and used as a warm up course. Starters are great, pro shop is not as welcoming. Some would use Kahili instead of the blue - great staff, less expensive, great views and good local restaurant.

We are staying at Ho'Olei 4/25/17 to 5/3/17. I golf but my wife doesn't. What day and good time could we go out where it is just my wife and I in our own group by ourselves? Do they charge for a rider fee?
Written 19 March 2017
Yes, there is a fee for riders; you'd have to contact the the golf course. The afternoons would be less crowded.

Thank you for your review. It's very helpful. I'm researching where to play golf in Maui. I'll be there in a couple of weeks. My question is do you know at what time interval they send people out? I only have 1 chance to play. I don't mind paying a little more if I don't have to wait at each tee box. Thanks again.
Written 27 December 2016
They are at 10 min intervals, I've played it in 3 hours and 5 hours. Typical is 4:15 Marshals are good, Gold and Emerald are not too difficult, always in great shape and little wind in am. Weekdays are best as we locals get out early, however in prime season our rates are higher so we play other courses. Enjoy.

What is the dress code? Is it khaki pants or shorts with a golf shirt? And do you have a resturante by chance?

Aloha Steve W, thank you for your questions and interest in the Wailea Golf Club. Khaki pants or shorts with a collared golf shirt are perfectly acceptable. Due to our warm climate shorts may be more comfortable. We request no denim, exercise, or swim/beachwear on the golf courses. All three golf courses are available to the public, and suitable for golfers of all ability levels. Our Gold course is the most challenging, and you might enjoy trying the Emerald or Blue. If you are only playing one round of golf while visiting us, the Emerald is the overall favorite for setting, views, and playability. We have member blocks on 2 of the 3 courses each morning which open up 5 days in advance, usually on the Gold and Blue courses. Public tee times are available starting around 9 am after the block on the 2 member courses, and as early as 6:52 on the non-member course. Guests can book tee times 30 days in advance via our telephone reservations, and 45 days in advance on our website. We have great restaurants/19th holes at each of our clubhouses. Gannon's Restaurant and Red Bar is located at the Gold and Emerald clubhouse, and Manoli's is located at the Blue clubhouse. Mahalo, we hope to see you soon!
