This is maui's only black sand beach that isn't on the road to Hana. Not pitch black. Dark brown. Volcano cliff right on beach was charcoal black. Very bumpy dirt road to get here. Only a handful of elderly couples sunbathing. We took a picture...More

The hidden gem on this strand lies behind the main beach - an occasionally muddy, but generally dry pond is great for bird watching. Early morning, or late afternoons seem best.

Acess is by a rough dirt road that is closed at sunset. There is little parking. It does not seem to be patrolled. I would worry about thefts from vehicles.

Somewhat isolated. Room for half a dozen cars at the end of a short rough road. Peaceful and pleasant though not a great swimming beach.

Nice beach water is clear and sand is clean. The waves are more aggressive at this beach so be cautious when entering the water!

Part of Makena State Park, this beach is awesome! Water is clear, beach is large enough to not feel too crowded.

This was the second beach we visited on our trip. It's not well marked as Oneloa beach; the signage indicates Makena Beach and then you walk towards the left and arrive at Oneloa. The beach wasn't terribly busy at 11:00-ish when we arrived but would...More
